The Medina County Manufacturers’ Training Consortium spun out of the Medina City Economic Development’s strategic plan. The first Medina County Manufacturers’ Training Consortium (MTC) meeting was held at the Medina County University Center (MCUC) on August 27, 2010. Seventeen companies were in attendance. Today, the Medina MTC is 36 companies strong.
In 2011 the Medina County University Center, the Medina County Career Center and Medina Works joined forces to provide the MTC its first dedicated course: the Certified Production Assistant program (CPT). This 40-hour, four-week course is available to the workforce of Medina County and provides training for job readiness in manufacturing processes. The program includes Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) approved training on Safety, Quality Practices & Measurement, Mfg Processes & Production, and Maintenance Awareness, as well as basic academic knowledge such as math and problem solving, important soft skills such as team-working abilities, and behavioral aspects like reliability and integrity. We had our first eleven proud graduates in June, 2011.
Benefits of the Medina MTC are vast. Beyond linking employers with potential employees, the Consortium provides educational opportunities for future manufacturing workers as well as current Medina County company employees, allows for networking opportunities for MTC key contacts, and MTC companies are eligible to receive special discounts on training for their employees through MCUC.
