Maria Alejandra Zanetta celebrates Shirley Mangini's new book


Last week, Professor Maria Alejandra Zanetta was invited to participate in the ceremony that celebrated  the publication in Spain of Professor Shirley Mangini’s book on Spanish Avant Garde painter Maruja Mallo. Zanetta, who dedicated a chapter to the aforementioned artist in her 2006 book entitled La otra Cara de la Vanguardia, discussed the symbolism behind some of the paintings that Mallo created in Spain before her exile in Bs. As. Argentina due to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. The act took place on October 15th at the prestigious Casa de América in Madrid, Spain. Among the participants  were: Antonio Gómez Conde-Maruja Mallo’s nephew -; Marián López Fernández – president of the Women in the Visual Arts Association or MAV (Asociación Mujeres en las Artes Visuales)-;Silvia Lluís, editor in Chief of the CIRCE publishing house- ; Shirley Mangini, author of Maruja Mallo, Emeritus Professor at the University of California, Long Beach and one of the most important researchers on Maruja Mallo and the Spanish Avant-Garde-; and María Pato- president of the Eleanor Roosevelt Association (La Asociación de Mujeres Eleanor Roosevelt).
