New Student Orientation: Advising & Registration

All incoming freshmen attending one of our Advising & Registration Programs should expect to spend a fun-filled full day on-campus. Check In begins at 8:00 a.m. Our Closing Remarks will conclude by 5:00 p.m.

Below is the schedule you can expect. Your schedule will be personalized based off your major and group for the day!

Student Schedule

Please note: Not all of the sessions listed below are offered during each orientation program. You will receive your personalized schedule for the day when you check in at orientation the morning of your program.

After you check in, take part in the Explore UA Involvement Fair. Learn about campus resources, check out groups to get involved in, and find out more about the many different resources UA has to offer.

Learn all about the importance of starting your college career off strong so that you can follow UA's Finish in Time model and set yourself on a bright career path.

You will meet with an academic advisor to discuss your first semester at UA, and register for your Fall 2015 classes after learning to add drop classes using My Akron.

Fun! Exciting! Engaging! The Akron Experience is all of that and more. Learn all about it and its seven key areas from some of the students who are living it right now. Our Orientation Leaders have tips about textbooks, parking, getting involved, and much more to help you out on the right foot in the fall!

If it isn't already, the bill is a very real thing about college. How are you paying for education and have you explored all of the possible ways that you can make your final number much lower? Getting Real About the Bill covers all the steps you should be taking in paying for college so that you stay on track to graduate without having to worry about finances stopping you from your goals.

Get Involved! You hear it all the time, right? Easier said than done! Well not here. Hear from students who got involved on campus and made the most of their Akron Experience. Students on our panel are more than success stories, they overcame challenges along the way and used the support of the groups they got involved with to make the most of their experience. Learn how you can do the same!

  • Visit Ritchie Residence Hall for assistance on housing or a residence hall tour
  • Visit Off-Campus Student Services for assitance and information for commuter students
  • Center for Service and Leadership Open House: Learn about all the student organizations you can get involved in and all the different opportunities that the CSL offers
  • A Day in the Life of a Zip Tour: Walk your class schedule with some of our Orientation Leaders
  • Visit the Student Services Center for questions and assistance regarding student accounts, registration, and financial aid
  • Visit PNC Bank, the official on-campus banking partner of UA
  • Visit The University of Akron Bookstore to shop UA gear and pick up your copy of the Common Reading Selection

After sitting in on your student's Academic Basics session, get an expanded session of general information about what advising is, the importance of meeting with an adviser, and much more.

  • Connecting Your Student to Career Success: What can your student do their first year to start looking ahead to their future? UA's own Career Center can help your student get connected.
  • PNC & UA's Bookstore: Hear about student banking from PNC Bank and the on-campus bookstore from UA's Bookstore.
