Kelly Pond graduated with a BSN from Kent State University in 1992, a MSN from The University of Akron in 1998, and a DNP from The Ohio State University in 2014. Her DNP project consisted of developing a PACU handoff checklist which she instituted at Akron General Medical Center. Research interests include handoff communication, perceived stress and prevalence of substance abuse in anesthesia students, and the use of wellness initiatives in the anesthesia community. She mentors undergraduate honors students and DNP students with research projects.
Kelly currently practices per diem at Akron General Medical Center, a level one trauma center in Akron, and is able to precept students that rotate through this clinical site. She is also involved in facilitating evidence-based projects within the operating room to improve quality of care to patients. Her full-time focus is lecturing to students within the nurse anesthesia program, both at the first and second levels.
