Information for New International Students
Congratulations on your admission to The University of Akron! The staff in the Office of International Programs looks forward to welcoming you to Akron, and we hope that your transition to university life will be a pleasant and enjoyable one. Please read the "Welcome Letter" that was sent to you with your I-20/DS-2019, as it contains valuable information that you need to know. Below is a checklist to help you as you prepare for your arrival and first few weeks in Akron.
If you are currently studying at another institution in the USA in F-1 visa status or on OPT on another school's I-20, you will need to transfer your SEVIS record to The University of Akron before you can begin classes here.Be advised that all on-campus or OPT employment will be must terminated by your SEVIS release date.
If you received a visa using a different school's I-20 but have not yet arrived in the USA, you will first need to contact the school that issued your I-20 to inquire about their policy on students transferring before enrolling at their institution. Each school handles this differently. After you have discussed your transfer with them, you should follow the procedures for a normal transfer to The University of Akron. a
