Ajay Mahajan is the Associate Vice President for Innovation at The University of Akron.
He also serves as the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering as well as a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering with a joint appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He specializes in smart sensors, structural health monitoring, controls, instrumentation and biomedical devices. He has worked on research projects for NASA, DoD and Federal Highway, as well as industry (Formula One race teams, Caterpillar and Medtronic). He has co-founded a company, and for the last decade, has championed entrepreneurship activities for faculty and students, helped develop regional ecosystems for economic growth and laid the foundation for many innovative public/private partnerships.
Mahajan graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (gold medal) from the University of Roorkee, India (now called Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee), and earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Tulane University, New Orleans.
