Prep for campus-wide accreditation review under way

The next Higher Learning Commission (HLC) comprehensive accreditation visit to The University of Akron is scheduled for the 2012-2013 academic year, and conversations are already under way to prepare.

Under the leadership of the Office of Academic Affairs, the University is establishing a Self-Study Steering Committee, charged with oversight of the self-study process.

Student learning outcomes will be an important aspect of the self-study document that will be prepared in advance of the 2012-13 campus-wide accreditation.

Broad involvement sought

As in the past, a broad range of UA constituency groups will be included in the campus discussions, subcommittees and writing teams to support the self-study efforts leading to a site visit by a team of peer reviewers.

As part of our continuous improvement process, department chairs and school directors, assisted by the Institute for Teaching and Learning, will work with faculty to update and expand efforts campus-wide to assess student learning outcomes — an important factor for our continued reaccreditation.
