Business Diversity Activities

September/October 2010

Coordinated efforts that started committee meetings for the 2nd Greater Akron Supplier Diversity Conference to be held May 2012.  

Attended annual Black Pages “Profit Factor” conference and was a panelist at two afternoon workshops entitled “How to Do Business with Government Agencies”.   State agencies and Nationwide Insurance were participants.  The University of Akron received an award for sponsorship and enriching economic growth of Ohio’s diverse business community.

The Akron Urban League hosted a Procurement Café.  The participants were informed of the benefits of the event and progress The University of Akon is making in the community, with business relationships and increased spend with diverse suppliers.

The Stow Chamber of Commerce held a small business meeting in which the small business owners were informed on how to do business with The University of Akron and information was provided to them on how to contact the College of Business Administration for educational opportunities. Attended GASD meeting.

Attended Diversity Council Meeting on campus and reported update from Supplier Diversity Committee.

November 2010

Attended GASD meeting. Currently in the process of deciding location and speaker for May 24, 2010 event.  

Attended Black Pages “Business Card Exchange”.  Attended workshop headed by Kent State University on “How to business at KSU.

Attended meeting with Dr.  Lee Gill, Sam Deshazior (City of Akron) and owner and representatives from Porter Cement who presented a proposal on building a hotel in downtown Akron.

Coordinated meeting with representatives from Lifestyle Magazine and Dr. Lee Gill.

December 2010

Facilitated meeting with Barb O’Malley, Laura Massie and representatives from Lifestyle Magazine. 

Mentoring meeting this month with Theo Woods of  Theo’s Unique Cleaning Services.
