Kick off the fall semester with some fun
As the fall semester nears, many programs are being planned to help you get into the swing of campus life, connect you to student organizations and give you the opportunity to have some fun early this semester!
- The Office of New Student Orientation (NSO) will be launching a new program series – Hop to UA Days starting Monday, Aug. 10, through Thursday, Aug. 20. New Student Orientation will offer these events daily at two available times. New students will have the opportunity to meet with orientation leaders, connect with new Zips and receive assistance visiting other areas of campus. Students will be required to RSVP as groups sizes will be limited to 10. New students will receive an email by Aug. 3 with additional details and instructions on how to access the RSVP link.
- It is a University tradition to officially welcome the incoming class into the UA community through New Student Convocation. Convocation introduces new Zips to our community, rich traditions and Akron pride. Class of 2024 — Save the date for Friday, Aug. 21! Be on the lookout for additional details in the coming weeks.
- New Roo Weekend is set to take place Saturday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Aug. 23. At New Roo Weekend, incoming students will be able to RSVP for in-person or virtual experiences that allow students to explore campus, involvement opportunities and make connections with other new Zips. Due to social distancing guidelines, in-person experiences are limited to groups of 10 or less. Engaging programs, which may be subject to modification due to state restrictions, have been planned for both virtual and in-person opportunities. New students should be on the lookout for a postcard and more details on how to RSVP for the weekend activities.
- Week of Welcome events will kick-off before the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 24. Students will have the opportunity to return to campus for socially distanced engagement opportunities and to tour campus to see our redesigned spaces.
With more options for engagement in-person and virtually, you can navigate campus experiences in a manner which feels most comfortable to you. This is YOUR Akron experience and we are here to help you create it! If you have questions or concerns regarding your Akron experience this fall, please contact ZipAssist. The ZipAssist team will provide you resources or connect you with a content expert on campus.
Preparing for the fall semester
Campus activity planning
With a cross-section of representation from the Division of Student Affairs, a team of students and staff are working to design student services, engagement and programs for the upcoming term. Students should expect varied methods of program delivery, which will likely include a combination of face-to-face and virtual appointments, presentations, programs and campus activities. Small groups working collaboratively will have a strong presence in activities. Physical spaces (such as lounges, individual offices and waiting areas) will soon be redesigned to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Additional sanitation procedures and supply requests have begun to be communicated to the campus. The team has collected, and will continue to assess, individual office plans for providing services and support while adhering to recommendations related to group size, social distancing and physical space.
