Faculty/Student mentorship helps land internships
My name is Melissa Schuerger and I was a double major in Psychology and Sociology. I held three previous internships including: the Avon Lake police department during my senior year of high school, Gathering Hope House during my freshman year of college, and with a Law Firm in Akron during my sophomore year.
I chose to study sociology because this field is used to understand how individuals impact the social world around them. To have this understanding of our impact, we can help make a difference and move towards a goal of bettering the world.
All of the professors I've met throughout my undergraduate studies have helped me to learn this, especially Dr. Peralta. Being that I am an Honors student, he has helped mentor me in my Honors Research Project on heavy episodic drinking. Aside from coaching me with my project, he has also been my professor in classes such as Criminology in which he both taught me and helped me when I needed further assistance with this class.
My goal is to eventually practice law, and I find that Dr. Peralta has helped me to further my education and through his mentoring in the internship program, and he has also helped me to further my experiences.
