For STAT 692 Statistics Master’s Paper. Upon approval of the Statistics Master’s Paper by the student’s advisor and reader, the paper must be presented in a colloquium to faculty and students. Total credit hours for the degree is 30 - 33.
Master's students that have a Bachelor's degree from UA
If a student has completed any of 480 (Statistical Data Management) / 462 (Reg & ANOVA) as a part of undergraduate study at UA, the student does not need to enroll in 580/665 respectively. Instead, student will enroll in 582 (SDM-1cr) / 669 (Regression Encore-1cr) respectively.
Students have a total of six years to complete the master's degree.

Graduate Admission
All applicants for admission to the graduate program in statistics must meet the university requirements for graduate admission as published in the Graduate Bulletin of The University of Akron. All foreign graduate students must demonstrate proficiency in English. Applicants must also submit three current letters of recommendation.
In addition, entrance into the M.S. Statistics program requires a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 and completion of the following prior to starting the program:
- One Semester of Applied Statistics or equivalent
Applicants who have not taken the required prerequisite courses will be required to complete them prior to start of the program. We do not require GRE. Full admission is solely based upon the academic record and fulfillment of the required prerequisites with a minimum of GPA of 2.75 or 3.00 for the last two years (64 semester credits or equivalent). See Graduate Bulletin Section 2, General Information for further clarification.
Applications are reviewed as they come in, and there is not set due date for admission.
All international applicants, U.S. citizens, and Permanent Residents whose native language is not English must submit evidence that they have a sufficient level of English to undertake graduate studies at The University of Akron in order to receive full admission. Please refer to the Graduate Bulletin (page 22) for clarification.

Teaching Assistantships
The Department of Statistics offers handful of graduate teaching assistantships for qualified graduate students both domestic and international. Decision of assistantship is independent of the decision of admission. The assistantship comes in a form of 20 hour per week employment of the candidate, and it provides tuition waiver and bi-weekly stipend.
The first round of screening for assistantship starts during the third week of January, and continues until positions are filled. All students who have received full admission will be considered. Online interviews of the selected candidates typically happen in February.
Applications received after April 15th cannot be considered for assistantships, but can still be considered for either fall or spring admission.
Graduate teaching assistants are required to teach general education Statistics computer labs. The University of Akron Graduate School requires students be proficient in English. For ALL international students, it is required to achieve a minimum of 23 on the speaking portion of the TOEFL test.
