First Year Experience


Akron Beginnings is a comprehensive first year programming series that utilizes events, programs and resources provided by units across campus and supports targeting first year participation. In addition, the programming series will include new programming initiatives to support the beginnings of a student’s Akron Experience. Targeting all aspects to a student’s experience, the programs/initiatives identified a part of the series will be focused on the student’s overall wellness and student success.

The MAX (My Akron Experience) Network are first year mentors who aid students in their transition to campus life through the Student Success Center. These mentors are involvement experts to ensure that first year students can find their niche on campus. MAX Network First Year Mentors are trained in campus resources and appreciative coaching. These students are upperclassmen who are involved in a variety of organization and are comprised of different majors and backgrounds. The MAX Network has monthly socials that will be incorporated within the Akron Beginnings (first year program series). MAX Network First Year Mentors have office hours each week to support students 1:1 and will be at the Akron Beginnings programs.

The purpose of the Akron Beginnings Instagram Challenge is to engage first year students in the transition to college through UA traditions.

Each semester there will be an Instagram Challenge. All challenges for the semester can be done each month once to increase your chances of winning in the drawing. Each image using the hashtag with be counted. Three winners will be chosen each month.
