Lambda Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded in 1877, becoming the first women’s fraternity to be placed on Buchtel College’s Campus, now known as the University of Akron. Kappa Kappa Gamma is the oldest continuing active Greek letter organization on Akron’s campus, and our members have served as leaders in our community from the very beginning. The purpose of Kappa Kappa Gamma is to unite its members in a close bond of friendship, instilling in them a spirit of mutual love and helpfulness for each member and for their community. Lambda Chapter strives to do just that, while achieving social, philanthropic and intellectual excellence.
Today’s active members continue to follow the motto, aspire to be, reflecting our members’ drive and passion to achieve our individual, chapter and community-wide goals. Our actives are not only inspired by the women who founded our chapter over 140 years ago, but also by their peers in the Greek community. Our chapter proudly dedicates it’s time to academics, social activities, and our three cherished philanthropies: Kappa Kidney Camp, Reading is Fundamental and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation. Lambda Chapter truly recognizes the value in intellectual development through experience, providing members with opportunities for self-growth, and simply having fun. We take pride in our accomplishments, but more than anything, cherish our friendships and precious time with each other. Kappa Kappa Gamma, at its core, encompasses friendship, leadership and scholarship… a lifetime opportunity and experience.
