THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON
We use placement testing to help determine the right course for you in a course sequence.
Your ACT/SAT scores and choice of major determine your placement testing requirements.
Not every student will be required to take placement tests, as each student is evaluated on an individual basis.
How it works
You will receive specific math, reading, writing, and computer literacy placement testing requirements by email no more than three business days after receiving the Advising & Registration Confirmation Email with your orientation date. The email will be sent to all addresses on file, including your UA email address.
Important: Placement exam(s) must be completed before the Advising & Registration program. Failure to complete any exam(s) before the program could result in a delay in course registration.
Foreign language placement tests
Foreign language placement tests are required for students with prior experience in a language they intend to study at UA. Incoming students will not receive an email about language-placement testing, and should instead refer to our foreign language requirement page.
Please see the information regarding specific tests and how to request accommodations for testing. If you are an incoming student and have questions about your placement testing requirement, please email email@example.com with your name, student ID number (7 digits, no letters), and your specific question. If you are a currently enrolled student and have questions regarding your placement testing, please contact your academic advisor with your question.
