Once you have received your I-20 or DS-2019 and your F-1 or J-1 visa*, you must register for a check-in appointment with the Office of International Programs. Check-in is mandatory and required by Federal immigration regulations as one of your primary responsibilities upon entering the United States. Failure to check-in will result in the termination of your SEVIS record (for F-1 and J-1 students). During check-in, you will notify The University of Akron that you have arrived in the United States and that you intend to enroll in classes. Your immigration documents will be examined by the Office of International Programs' immigration staff and any immediate questions regarding your immigration status will be answered. You will also receive information about New International Student Orientation as well as a checklist of things you need to do to get settled in Akron. It is important that you check-in as soon as possible so that you complete all of the needed tasks before the semester begins. Please complete this form in its entirety and select the check-in appointment you prefer. In making your travel plans, you should plan to arrive in plenty of time to attend your check-in appointment but no earlier than 30 days before the start date listed on your I-20 . Any questions regarding check-in can be sent to OIPCheck-In@uakron.edu
*Students with visas other than F-1 or J-1 still need to check-in with the Office of International Programs and attend New International Student Orientation. Please complete the form below and select a check-in appointment.
