How to get a ticket to the Kent State game
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The biggest basketball game of the year is approaching fast. We expect ticket demand to exceed availability when the men's team faces Kent at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 9 in Rhodes Arena. To give the greatest number of students an equal chance for seats, we have changed our admission policy for the Kent game only:

  1. Students will need to present a physical ticket to be admitted. (Usually, simply showing your Zip Card will get you in, but not for this game.)
  2. The physical ticket is free, but you must pick it up in advance in the Rhodes Arena Ticket Office beginning at noon on Monday, Feb. 25. You must show your Zip Card. Only one ticket per Zip Card.
  3. A limited number of tickets are available on a first-come basis.
  4. Beat the crowd: The first 250 students to attend tomorrow's game versus Virginia Commonwealth will get Kent tickets. The game starts at 11 a.m.

If you have questions, call 330-972-6920.

With the undeniable success of the natural sciences in predicting
future events by using physical, chemical, and biological categories;
and with the obvious fact that human behavior is a part of these
events, one may doubt that there is any need to employ our normal
mentalistic vocabulary to explain human activity.
Come meet with the
University of Akron Philosophy Club to learn and discuss the reasons
why our intuitive mentalisic concepts--words such as 'belief' and
'desire'--are still ultimately needed to explain human activity.

Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare - It's Mardi Gras in Sandefur Theatre! Feb. 28 - March 8

The University of Akron to present William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night

Akron OH – The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration will present Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare Feb. 28, 29 and March 1, 6, 7 and 8 at 8 p.m. and March 2 at 2 p.m. in Sandefur Theatre in Guzzetta Hall, across from E. J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. In conjunction with the public performances, a student matinee will be offered to local middle schools and high schools on February 29.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $6 for seniors and UA faculty, staff, and students. The ticket office opens one hour before each performance. For reservations or more information call 330-972-7895 or visit http://www.uakron.edu/dtaa.

Twelfth Night is directed by University of Akron Assistant Professor Stephen Skiles, who recently joined the UA faculty as the inaugural holder of the Paul Daum Professorship in Theatre Arts. Before coming to Akron, Skiles worked in New York City and most recently as an actor, director, and teacher in Cincinnati.

Twelfth Night features separated twins, mistaken identities, an elaborate hoax, and finally the victory of true love. Skiles feels that for twenty-first century audiences the festive chaos of this script suggests the revelries associated with Mardi Gras. For this reason, he – as well as scene designer Adel Migid and costume designer Pamela Crevcoure – are setting this production in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Skiles promises a few surprises in this “upbeat and contemporary” production.

Skiles says he selected Twelfth Night for his first production at The University of Akron because “I have always loved the play and find the story to be very funny. At the same time, it’s very poignant and relevant today. The idea behind the play is to remind us to take time to have a good time. It is easy in today’s world to get caught up in the importance of our work and our day-to-day activities. Shakespeare reminds us to take a few moments out of that hectic and overwhelming schedule to breathe, relax and even have a little fun.”
