DARS upgrade
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The Wizard of DARS has once again performed the Magic!

The Degree Audit Reporting System or DARS is a real-time automated record reflecting a student’s academic progress toward degree completion. It is a comprehensive and flexible auditing system designed to compare academic coursework with the requirements of the academic plan. DARS details overall degree criteria, which includes general education or honors requirements, college and major requirements for undergraduate, graduate and law students.

The upgraded version of DARS will be live Friday, April 4 with some exciting new features.

When the new version comes up live, there will be no changes as to how DARS Web is accessed: Log into ZipLine, select the Faculty/Staff page, and select the DARS logo. Since all of the DARS processes will be web-based, the DARwin client is no longer necessary and will not be available.

For information on the new and updated features, please refer to the user documentation on the Registrar’s Web-site which will be updated when New DARS goes live.

http://www.uakron.edu/registrar/DARSstudents1.php

Some of the new features are:

Interactive requirement and progress charts and graphs

The ability to add “planned” courses into the audit

User-friendly drill-down selections for running what-if audits

The ability to view transfer courses, transfer evaluations and exceptions

If you have any questions regarding your security access, please contact the help desk http://www.uakron.edu/its/hoss/helpdesk/index.php.

Informational presentations for students, faculty, staff, advisors and administrators will be held in Simmons Hall Auditorium room 111 on the following dates:

Monday, April 7 - 2:00 - 3:00

Tuesday, April 8 - 11:00 - 12:00

Wednesday, April 9 - 10:00 - 11:00

Thursday, April 10 - 2:00 - 3:00

Thursday, April 10 - 3:00 - 4:00

We hope you enjoy the DARS upgrade and we welcome your feedback.

Performance Artist Laurie Anderson's "Homeland" at E.J. Thomas Hall April 4

spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The University of Akron's E.J. Thomas Hall is presenting Laurie Anderson's "Homeland" for one performance only this Friday, April 4th at 8 p.m.

Laurie Anderson is one of today's premiere performance artists. In 'Homeland,' she mixes technology, song writing, and poetry to examine contemporary American culture. Her work has been presented at museums in America and Europe, including the Guggenheim in SoHo and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. In 2002, she was appointed the first artist-in-residence of NASA. The concert is presented by The University of Akron's Mary Schiller Myers School of Art and E.J. Thomas Hall.

From her recent performance in Boston: "For all her avant-garde reputation and coded contemplations on the the human condition, Laurie Anderson remains one of our most charismatic modern storytellers, the gold standard in musical commentary. Softly chilled, a bit eerie, and uniquely curious, yes, but above all she's provacative, amusing, and friendly." Boston Globe, 3/31/2008.

Tickets are: $20 and $15 general; $18 and $13 seniors, children 12 and under; UA faculty/staff/retirees; $10, and $7.50 UA students. Call 30-972-7570 or visit the Thomas Hall Ticket Office or http://www.ejthomashall.com

"Where Have All The Soldiers Gone?" The issue of Homeless Vets April 8
4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that as many as 400,000 American military veterans are homeless at least part of the time. And veterans of America's latest wars are adding to those numbers.

It's estimated that hundreds of recently returned veterans of the war in Iraq are living on the streets.

This time Sociology Club teamed up with Haven of Rest in Akron to shed some light on a homeless issue that many times goes unnoticed.

Joining us from the Haven of Rest is Mike Soloski from the Developmental program as well as a previously homeless member of the organization to share their knowledge and testimonies on the issue as well as invite you to take a tour of the Haven of Rest facility on April 15th.

We will also be showing an extremely moving documentary that follows the stories of homeless vets : When I Came Home- Homeless Vets

This is a great event that you truly don’t want to miss out on.
