Sneak peek at new UA Web design
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The University's Web team extends its gratitude to the many faculty, staff, students, parents and administrators who have participated in the effort to redesign the top pages of www.uakron.edu over the last few months. The designs for the pages are now ready for you to view. You also are invited to use the feedback forms to offer your suggestions to the team.

The first phase of the redesign will replace the top 100 to 200 pages of the University’s current Web site. The changeover is expected to occur this summer. The second phase will extend the redesign further down.

The redesigned Web site will be oriented primarily toward prospective students. This is in contrast to our present site, whose architecture closely mirrors the organizational structure of the University, making it difficult to find information unless the user knows how the University is structured. The shift in orientation is expected to make the site easier to use by people outside of the university, especially prospective students and their parents.

There will be dedicated pages on the new site for current students, faculty and staff, parents and other important internal groups. The site also will provide users with several different ways to find information, including search engines, A-to-Z listings and tag clouds that display the terms most frequently entered into a search engine.

For the redesign, UA has enlisted the assistance of Miami-based Dotmarketing, which specializes in Web design services for higher education institutions.

Fifth Annual Art Education Exhibition in Folk Hall, April 14 - 24 April 16

spacer image
The Fifth Annual Art Education Exhibition will take place in the gallery atrium of Folk Hall from April 14 to 24, 2008. Art Education professor Elisa Gargarella says that this year’s exhibition is fashioned after the French “salon”, an institution for the exchange of news and ideas which flourished throughout the 17th and 18th century, and expanded into Europe during the 19th century. As such, the art educators have fittingly titled their exhibition “The Salon Show”.

The show represents works created by art education majors and alumni. A free public opening reception will be held at Folk Hall on Wednesday, April 16th starting at 5:00 p.m.

UA Honors Center Opens New Gallery Space With Retrospective Exhibition April 16
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

spacer image
spacer image
A new art gallery has opened in UA's Honors Center with a retrospective of work by UA Art Professor James Lenavitt. The new gallery has two exhibition areas – one in an upper-level hallway and the other in a lower-level hallway – both with natural lighting and additional spot lighting installed through campus funding.

"James Lenavitt [8708]: Prints and Drawings" is currently showing in the upper gallery through June 27. A free public reception to inaugurate the new space will be held Wednesday, April 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. The Honors College Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Dr. Dale Mugler, dean of the UA Honors College, has collaborated since last summer on the gallery concept with Del Rey Loven, director of the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art, and Rod Bengston, director of University Galleries. Mugler explained that current plans call for the upper exhibition area to feature works by UA faculty while the lower gallery will be dedicated to student art, with gala opening receptions held two or three times a year.

James Lenavitt’s exhibition features art work from the past 20 years of his impressive career. Lenavitt explains that his work reflects an intellectual curiosity and desire to explore and discover the root of the creative impulse. His work, he says, “combines the disparate and forces a dialogue between things that simply do not fit.”

The Mary Schiller Myers School of Art completes the lectur series “Portals and Pilgrimage”, which has presented eminent scholars of medieval art history to the campus community this spring.

Her free public lecture, “Pilgrims, Portals and the Promise of Salvation” is at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16th in the auditorium of Folk Hall. Light refreshments will follow.

The end of the semester is upon us, and that could only mean one thing if you're a big Nuance fan...The third anual A Cappella Nuance Concert is upon us. If you haven't heard of us before, check out our website http://www.uasingers.com or come check out our concert. There is no price for admission, and its a good time with great music and an entertaining atmosphere.

One point to make a note of is that the Concert is going to be the auditorium at Leigh Hall (Leigh Hall Rm 107) instead of the usual Guzzetta Hall. Its a bigger venue to fit more people, and we hope everyone who reads this can come check us out.
