Students are encouraged to check their summer 2008 schedules via ZipLine.

Log into ZipLine with your UANet ID and password
Click on the “Students” tab, select “Academics” from the list and then select “View My Class Schedule.” Information regarding course meeting times, days and room location is given in real-time; in other words, all information is up to date as it is retrieved.

The Office of the University Registrar sends an e-mail to the instructor of record and all enrolled students’ UA Net e-mail address when there is a classroom change made in the course(s) they are enrolled. It is recommended that instructors and students check their UANet e-mail often for any important messages from the University as this will be the official means of notification used by the Office of the University Registrar.

Students may access a computer from many locations on campus including:
Simmons Hall – Lobby
Student Union – Laptop Check Out and Kiosks
Residence Halls – Computer Labs
Bierce Library – Computer Labs and Laptop Check Out
The Polsky Building – Room 192
Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences building – Computer Lab Room 103B and Kiosks in Atrium
College of Business Administration Building – Room 102

For students who do not have access to a computer, a listing of courses with classroom assignments will be available at the Student Union Information Desk and the Bierce Library Circulation Desk.

Questions regarding your course schedule may be directed to the Office of the University Registrar at Registration@uakron.edu or 330-972-8300 (choose option #4 for Registration).

University police introduce new, easy-to-remember phone number
    spacer image
    spacer image
    spacer image
    spacer image
badgeEveryone knows to call 9-1-1 in an emergency. Now the University's police department is trying to capitalize on that common knowledge.

The department has set up an additional number to its dispatch center that contains 9-1-1. Now you can reach UAPD dispatch by calling 330-972-2911.

The department's other general phone number remains active: 330-972-7123. But now you have another way to reach it, and hopefully the new 972-2911 number will be easier to remember.

As a reminder: If you are on a cell phone, dialing 9-1-1 will send your call to the City of Akron police dispatch (city police will respond, or they will route your call to UAPD). If you are calling on a campus land line, the 9-1-1 call will go to UAPD dispatch.

The University's police department recommends that you program either one of the department's phone numbers as a speed dial into your cell phone. Doing so might well lead to a faster connection to UAPD dispatch if you are on campus with a cell phone and need the assistance of the University police.

The University of Akron’s Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies and New Business Legal Clinic and six other entrepreneurship centers (Ashland, Baldwin Wallace, Case Western Reserve, Cleveland State, John Carroll, and Kent State Universities) have created a new Entrepreneurship Education Consortium (see http://www.eecneohio.com/acorn.php) ) in NEO to avoid brain drain and stimulate economic growth.

The consortium of universities, will select up to 35 students (from any discipline throughout their universities) to participate in an intensive week long entrepreneurship academy over the summer from August 10-15, 2008. The students will learn about various aspects of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship by attending two sessions a day.

The students will live in a dormitory for a week and will immerse themselves in topics and share information with each other. They will form teams and create a new product or service throughout the week and present it to a team of judges for prize money. This year’s event will take place at John Carroll University.

According to Dr. Todd Finkle, the Academic Director of the Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies and Stephen Cook, Director of the New Business Legal Clinic, “This is a significant step forward for the region. We are not aware of another university or region that has done something of this magnitude. It shows collaboration and regionalism, which is what this region needs in order to survive. It is also a university-wide initiative that integrates students not only from all over our university, but with other schools to create synergies. As a group, we realized that we can accomplish much more together than individually. Our goal is to develop entrepreneurs, who will remain in the region after graduation. These students will form new enterprises, create new jobs for the labor force, and generate new economic activity. The economic future of our region will be shaped by students like these. The selected students will return to their home institutions, ready to start the academic year with new knowledge, new skills, and new attitudes about entrepreneurial opportunities here in Northeast Ohio. It won’t be all hard work. We will have a variety of activities lined up for the students in the evening such as going to an Indians game. There will be ample opportunities to network and meet a variety of prominent entrepreneurs and business people from the community. It will be an experience of a lifetime.”

To be eligible, students must be entering their junior or senior year in any major. Tuition, room, board, text books will be provided at no cost. For more information please contact Dr. Todd A. Finkle at finklet@uakron.eduor 330-972-8479.
