University Libraries Announces Expanded Laptop Program

In response to student requests for greater flexibility, Laptop Lending Services in Bierce Library and the Science and Technology Library will allow laptops to be used outside as well as inside of the library. So, if you need to take a laptop to class or just want to sit outside to work, this new flexibility should meet your needs.

To accommodate students who need to use a borrowed laptop computer for extended periods of time, Bierce Library has just begun a year-long pilot program that allows a limited number of laptops to circulate for one week to any currently enrolled student. Bierce Library will also provide the essential accessories, along with a carrying bag. During this academic year, the library staff will collect circulation data on the extended-loan laptops and survey users in order to evaluate and consider future services.

Regardless of the assignment, the University Libraries wants to provide students with the perfect laptop for the job. To see if there is demand for a variety of laptop models,we have added some HP Tablets and some MacBook Pros (with Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium 3 software) to Bierce Library’s collection of Dell Latitude D630s. During the year, students who check out laptops will be surveyed to see what their needs are and if the available machines and software are meeting those needs.

Please take a minute to respond when surveyed about laptop use so that you can help us provide the services you need.

Call Bierce Circulation at 330-972-5355 for more information.
