Some parking lot designations will change Monday
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Starting Monday, Sept. 15, some parking lots and deck levels will have new designations.

The changes will help address student needs and help rebalance the number of spaces available to “R” permits holders (resident students) and “C” permit holders (commuter students, faculty and staff).

This map shows the changes. They are, in brief:

  • The top level of the North Campus deck, including the ramp up to that level, will become R permit parking only. Only resident students may park there.
  • An additional level of the Exchange Street deck (Level 4), including the ramps to this level, will become R permit parking only. Only resident students may park there.
  • The parking lot north of the North Campus deck, at Forge and Lincoln streets (near the Lincoln Building), will revert to commuter parking only. Only commuter students, faculty and staff may park there.
  • The top level of the East Campus Deck will revert to commuter parking only, making this entire deck available to commuters.
  • Several lots at the perimeter of campus will become all permit: The former Ballet Center lot, the former Urban League lot, the Wolf Ledges Professional Building lot and the Quaker Square lot north of Mill Street.

All other lots not mentioned here will keep their current designations.

Resident students can swap an O permit for an R permit in the Parking Services Office up to Friday, Sept. 19. (For any resident students who have already received a credit to their student accounts for the permit, the credit will be removed when the exchange occurs.) Students who retain their O permits will be allowed to park in any of the “All Permit” lots.

The Parking Services Office is on Buchtel Avenue in the North Campus Parking Deck, near the pedestrian bridge. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday.

Buddhism: Why a 'Buddhist' will never try and convert you: a search for the Philosophy of The Buddha Sept. 16
5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Our next meeting for the Philosophy Club is on September 16th in the Student Union room 316 at 5pm.
This meeting will focus on the Philosophy of Buddhism. This will be primarily a historical look at the philosophy that became the religion known today as Buddhism.
We will investigate why Buddhism per se must not be mistaken for a religion, and also why it is that so many religions have come from Buddhism.
We will attempt to remove the religious connotations from seemingly religious concepts.
We will investigate historical context of Gautama Buddha with the hope to recognize the philosophy that which was in answer to the social constructs that resulted from perversion within Hinduism.
We will look for reasons as to why Buddhism became a dominant religion despite the Buddha’s attempts to avoid this change.
What we want from you in this meeting: an open mind, use of your reason, recognition of your emotions, and mindfulness of your motivations.
What we do not want from you in this meeting: religious conversion, dogmatism, and unreasoned spontaneity.
Those who attend should walk away with a working understanding of many Buddhist concepts such as: Meditation, Karma, Dharma, Dukkha, the four noble truths, the eight-fold path, the five precepts, and the three poisons.

The 7:17 Coffeehouse Series kicks-off with singers Chinua Hawk and Chris Cauley.

Chinua is Nigerian for “God’s own blessing.” The soaring name Hawk comes from the Native American side of his heritage. Recently, Chinua won the Billboard Magazine Indie Artist World Series. With a powerful, soulful voice and lyrics that mirror life experience, Chinua has taken the country by storm. When not performing on college campuses, he has taken the stage and recorded with such artists as Celine Dion and Wyclef Jean

A scrappy little kid with a guitar…that’s how Chris Cauley describes himself. But anyone who thinks that’s all there is to this singer-songwriter hasn’t seen him perform. Chris can strip a ballad down to such a simple, uncluttered intimate sound that he takes the most raucous crowd down to complete silence. Simple, contemporary acoustic rock with a hint of blues and voice of soul…that’s the music and talent of Chris Cauley!

Free travel mugs to the first 100 at the show!

Tau Beta Pi will be sponsoring Team Chartering, an Engineering Futures
workshop for all university students. The workshop is designed to
enhance interpersonal and leadership skills. Throughout the workshop,
students will learn how to define and describe problems between
co-workers, bosses, and teammates. Students also learn how to
effectively motivate people, a key part in resolving interpersonal
conflicts.

The Engineering Futures program is created especially for engineering
students from training materials used in Fortune 500 companies. It
focuses on the teamwork, group, problem solving, and interpersonal
relations necessary in the workplace. In a time where many are
competing for a few positions, Engineering Futures teaches the skill
that give students an edge. Executives are looking for engineering
students who can work with others and solve problems

The Team Chartering workshop will also help students work more
effectively with each other. This session is great for design teams
and student organization officers.

Feel free to email us at ohiokappatbp@gmail.com with any questions & to sign up.

*** Keep in mind this is open for all students, they must sign up by
Wed. Sept 24th 8:00pm. Dinner is provided.

Dear University of Akron Student Organizations,

Alpha Gamma Delta will be holding their annual Alpha Gam Lip Jam event on Friday October 3, 2008 at the Daum Theater on The University of Akron's Campus. "Lip Jam" is a friendly song and dance competition with all proceeds going towards Juvenile Diabetes. This year's theme will be "Alpha Gam Goes Country, Down On The Farm!" All acts should be performing to any variation of country music, throughout the years. For the first time, we are extending invitations to campus organizations. We encourage your participation, as it will make this year's event the most successful one to date!

If you are interested, please contact Alpha Gamma Delta President, Tess Goodrow, at tlg21@uakron.edu and she will get you in contact with our Philanthropy Coordinator. Our Philanthropy Coordinator will get you a registration packet, which includes registration guidelines, deadlines, and a list of suggested songs. Upon registering, you will be given a Lip Jam Coach, which is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta who will help you in anyway you need. (With your banner, choreographing, need to know information, and making you treats to get you excited for the event!)

Our chapter looks forward to your participation in our philanthropic lip synching event!

(Do not hesitate to contact Tess Goodrow with questions! Thank you!)
