. . . the traditions and spirit that make the student experience at The University of Akron comprehensive and memorable, I invite you to participate in The Roo Wears Blue Days on Sept. 12, Sept. 26 and Oct. 10. On those Fridays, which immediately precede a home football game at the Rubber Bowl during our last season there, all members of the University community are encouraged to wear Zips apparel to reflect our institutional pride and camaraderie. As an incentive to take part, the Bookstore in the Student Union and the Zips Team Shop in Rhodes Arena will sell any blue Zips apparel at a 25-percent discount to anyone with a printed copy of this message.

I hope you will join me in what could be a very visible and enjoyable celebration of all things Akron.

Some parking lot designations will change Monday

Starting Monday, Sept. 15, some parking lots and deck levels will have new designations.

The changes will help address student needs and help rebalance the number of spaces available to “R” permits holders (resident students) and “C” permit holders (commuter students, faculty and staff).

This map shows the changes. They are, in brief:

  • The top level of the North Campus deck, including the ramp up to that level, will become R permit parking only. Only resident students may park there.
  • An additional level of the Exchange Street deck (Level 4), including the ramps to this level, will become R permit parking only. Only resident students may park there.
  • The parking lot north of the North Campus deck, at Forge and Lincoln streets (near the Lincoln Building), will revert to commuter parking only. Only commuter students, faculty and staff may park there.
  • The top level of the East Campus Deck will revert to commuter parking only, making this entire deck available to commuters.
  • Several lots at the perimeter of campus will become all permit: The former Ballet Center lot, the former Urban League lot, the Wolf Ledges Professional Building lot and the Quaker Square lot north of Mill Street.

All other lots not mentioned here will keep their current designations.

Resident students can swap an O permit for an R permit in the Parking Services Office up to Friday, Sept. 19. (For any resident students who have already received a credit to their student accounts for the permit, the credit will be removed when the exchange occurs.) Students who retain their O permits will be allowed to park in any of the “All Permit” lots.

The Parking Services Office is on Buchtel Avenue in the North Campus Parking Deck, near the pedestrian bridge. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday.

UA to test outdoor warning system twice Wednesday

UA will test its outdoor warning system this Wednesday and every second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. When you hear it, you do not need to take any action. The test will last about two minutes; it will consist of a voice message followed by a siren that will sound for one minute.

The test will not be conducted if threatening weather is in the area. If you have questions concerning the outdoor warning system, call Mark Beers, UA’s emergency management coordinator at 330-972-2633.

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students. Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship, or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments. The University reserves the right to edit or to refuse to run any submission for any reason. Zipmail is not, nor is it intended to be, a public forum or a limited public forum. Questions about the implementation of this policy may be directed to zipmail@uakron.edu.

Items to be considered for inclusion in Zipmail should be sent through the Zipmail Event Submission Form. Due to the volume of submissions received, items will not run more than one time.
