Some services affected by the power outage

While the University came through Sunday’s winds relatively well, a few buildings on the north side of campus are without power, and that is hindering such services as campus mail delivery and payroll.

Ohio Edison has estimated it may be Friday before power is restored to the Administrative Services Building and four other nonacademic buildings on the north side.

Because campus mail and payroll are located in the building, students may be affected.

  • Students who live in the residence halls will not receive mail today. Limited mail services are expected to resume starting tomorrow.
  • For student employees and graduate assistants, paychecks can be picked up starting tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby of Simmons Hall, at window No. 10.

The Medina County University Center is also without power. Ohio Edison reported that it may be able to restore power to the center this evening. The center will be closed today and tonight. Updates will be posted on the MCUC Web site.

Students who are affected by the outage should contact their dean’s office or department’s office for assistance.

Ramadan is one of the 12 months in the Islamic calendar. Did you know that 23% of the students at the University of Akron are fasting this month? Well, on Friday 19, 2008, you will have the chance to meet Muslims and share with them the Ramadan experience. Meet the Muslim students from the University of Akron over dinner in Ballroom A of the Student Union this Friday, starting at 7:15 p.m.

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students. Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship, or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments. The University reserves the right to edit or to refuse to run any submission for any reason. Zipmail is not, nor is it intended to be, a public forum or a limited public forum. Questions about the implementation of this policy may be directed to zipmail@uakron.edu.

Items to be considered for inclusion in Zipmail should be sent through the Zipmail Event Submission Form. Due to the volume of submissions received, items will not run more than one time.
