Free and Anonymous HIV Testing Feb. 20
10:00 am - 4:00 pm
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Health Services is pleased to announce that free, anonymous* on-campus HIV testing will be available Friday, February 20, from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Testing is by appointment only and is available to all students of The University of Akron. Students can return in one week for their results.

This is a fast, easy and free opportunity to get tested for HIV. It never hurts to get tested, especially if a student is sexually active and not using protection consistently or sharing needles.

The OraSure test is a no-blood, no-needle test that only takes a few minutes. A trained professional gives the person getting tested an OraSure pad that is placed between cheek and gum, and rubbed back and forth until it is moist. After 3-5 minutes, the pad is placed in a vial and sent to a state lab for testing. A return visit is scheduled for counseling and test results. Like the blood test, OraSure checks for HIV antibodies, not the virus. The test is more than 99 percent accurate.

For more information or to make an anonymous/confidential appointment, please call (330) 972-7808. Email scheduling will not be accepted.

*Health Services staff will just need the student's birthdate and the time they would like to be tested.
