The Department of Development is in need of ENERGETIC, ENTHUSIASTIC, RELIABLE and PROUD UA students to call Alumni for our 2009 phonathon campaign.

Sales, telemarketing, or general work experience is preferred, but we will train motivated and reliable students willing to learn. You need great verbal communication skills along with a positive and outgoing personality. Fun atmosphere! Positions begin February 2, 2009.
Hours M -TH 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm (6-12hours per week), $7.50 an hour plus incentives.

Call for Proposals!!!

The University of Akron's Conference on Undergraduate and Graduate Student Research will take place on Thursday, March 26, 2009.

The purpose is to exhibit outstanding research and promote student participation in scholarly activities. Students and faculty will present from various disciplines, including the arts, mathematics, business, social sciences, humanities, physical and life sciences, and engineering. Students from diverse or underrepresented backgrounds are particularly encouraged to present at the research conference.

Submissions for all academic disciplines are welcome. Students may submit a proposal or abstract for oral or poster presentations.

IMPORTANT DATES:

Deadline for Abstracts: Monday, January 19, 2009
Notification of Acceptance: Friday, February 6, 2009
Registration Deadline: Monday, February 23, 2009

Save the Date — Hearts for Humanity dinner/dance Feb. 6

If you can’t go to Mardi Gras, then Mardi Gras will come to you as The University of Akron hosts its fourth annual Hearts for Humanity Dinner Dance on Friday, Feb. 6, in the Student Union Ballroom. Proceeds of the event will help defray expenses for UA students going to the Gulf Coast during spring break to assist with relief efforts.

Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar. A fabulous buffet of New Orleans-style food will be served at 6 p.m., followed by dancing, oral and silent auctions, and the opportunity to have your photo taken with Zippy. Cost is $25, and $20 for UA students.

Students may purchase tickets for this event, beginning Jan. 12, at Rob’s Café. For more information, please call the University College Dean’s Office at 330-972-7066.

Study Abroad Italy and Greece - Summer Session 1, 2009 May 12 - June 12

Come with us to Italy and Greece! There are still a few spaces available. Leave May 12; return June 12.

In Italy (about 5 days) visit Rome, Pompeii, Matera, Alberobello, and then take a ferry from Bari to Patras, Greece.

In Greece (about 3 weeks) visit Olympia, Sparta/Mystras, Nafplion, Mycenae, Epidaurus, the Corinthian Canal, Delphi, Meteora, and then spend a block of time in Athens.

We will finish with a four-day cruise of the Greek Islands (Mykonos, Kusadasi (Turkey), Patmos, Rhodes, Crete, and Santonrini).

This will be a once in a lifetime trip. Don’t wish you would have gone. Come with us!

Students can earn 3 – 6 University of Akron credits for the trip.

Total costs are expected to range between $5,000 and $7,500 depending upon how many classes you take, and your personal expenses.
