Heading out for the long weekend? Keep these tips in mind

Many of you will be packing up and leaving campus soon for the holiday weekend. As you prepare, here are some good tips to keep in mind:
  • Resist the temptation to pack your vehicle the night before you go.
  • Charge your cell phone the night before you depart.
  • If you are living off-campus, consider leaving on a light or radio to give the impression that someone is home. Save energy by using a security timer, many of which are available for less than $10.
  • Consider taking home easy-to-pack valuables, such as your laptop, iPod, cell phone, camera.
  • When you return, remember that we’re nearing the end of the semester, a period when book thefts tend to increase here and on other campuses.  Wherever you are, don’t leave your books unattended, even for a minute.
  • Call the University’s police department at 330-972-2911 if you notice anything unusual or if you need an officer’s assistance. In an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
  • All of us at the University hope you enjoy the long weekend. Travel safe!

Are You Familiar With Your Student Rights and Responsibilities?
    spacer image
    spacer image
    spacer image
    spacer image
Are you aware that the University addresses your behavior both on and off campus? Did you realize that giving a fake excuse to faculty to get an extension for an assignment is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct? Do you know where to find the Student Code of Conduct?

If you answered “no” to any of these questions then it’s likely that you were not among the nearly 8000 students whom the Office of Student Judicial Affairs (SJA) engaged this year with an interactive and informative presentation designed to help students understand the Student Code of Conduct.

To learn more about your rights and responsibilities as a student, you are welcome to stop by the SJA office in Room 216 of the Student Union and pick up a brochure on the Student Code of Conduct, browse our website at www.uakron.edu/sja or give us a call at 330-972-6380.
