Here's how to get financial aid for summer
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
To receive summer aid you should:

  1. complete the 2009-10 Free Application for Federal Student Aid  (FAFSA);
  2. complete the summer-aid application and read the summer-aid brochure, which will be available March 13 on the UA Financial Aid Web site or in the Student Services Center in Simmons Hall; and
  3. enroll and attend class.

Loans borrowed during the summer will reduce your loan eligibility during the fall and spring.

Pell Grants are for undergraduates who have not already earned a bachelor's degree. Beginning the 2009-10 aid year, the U.S. Department of Education has made a change to Pell Grant. In the past, any Pell dollars used in the summer would reduce spring eligibility.  This is not the case this year.  (Please see the summer aid brochure for details)

The deadline for submitting the summer aid application to receive summer aid is June 1.

What the mount on your car window says to thieves
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
What you may least expect can make your car a target for thieves.

Accessories such as chargers or window mounts may signal to thieves that electronic devices are in the car, even if you have locked the devices away and out of sight. A thief can produce costly damage to your vehicle just gaining entry to look.

To be safe, you may want to consider hiding the mounts and chargers, too.

Other tips:
  • Lock your vehicle at all times, even if you are going to be away for just a few minutes.
  • Never leave valuables or bags in plain view in your vehicle. A thief will not risk getting caught unless he or she sees something that indicates a payoff.

Most thefts that occur are a crime of opportunity. With a little bit of extra effort and time, you can minimize the chance of being victimized; and remember – when you’re locking away electronic devices from your car, remember the accessories!

The University of Akron to present Proof

Akron, OH – The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration presents Proof by David Auburn. The production is directed by UA professor Stephen Skiles. Performances will be Feb. 12-14 and 19-21 at 8 p.m., and Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. in Sandefur Theatre in Guzzetta Hall, 139 Buchtel Ave., across from E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall.

Proof is an intriguing mix of mystery and mathematics that touches on the elusiveness of life and love. It involves four central characters dealing with issues related to the nature of genius, mental illness, love, and mistrust as they find themselves working to “prove” who wrote a newly discovered mathematical proof. First produced on Broadway in 2000, Proof starred Mary Louise Parker in the role of Catherine. In 2001, the play won both the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony for Best Play.

Bruce Weber, in the New York Times, called Proof "an exhilarating and assured new play . . . that turns the esoteric world of higher mathematics literally into a back porch drama, one that is as accessible and compelling as a detective story."

Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for seniors, UA faculty/staff/retirees; and $6 for students. The ticket office opens one hour before each performance. For reservation or more information please call 330.972.7895 or visit our website at www.uakron.edu/dtaa.
