To keep up with growth, UA will begin to expand parking on the south side of campus starting Monday, March 16, when the surface lot west of the Exchange Street deck will be closed.  A six-level deck will be built in that area, creating 426 spaces.

parking mapFor the remainder of the spring semester and perhaps longer, the entrance to the Exchange Street deck from Exchange Street will move east to the Sumner Street intersection, opposite of where McDonald’s is located.

The surface lot between Schrank Hall South and Exchange Street will remain open.

Because parking on the south side of campus is tight, Parking Services offers this advice to motorists:

  1. Arrive on campus early March 23-26 to assure that you have time to find a space and get to your destination on time.
  2. Consider parking in one of the lots on the north side of campus and taking the free Roo Express shuttle to the campus center. See the North route stops. This map gives advice for parking based on the time of day you arrive.
  3. The East Campus Parking deck is also an excellent choice, as is the lot between The Chapel and Route 8. From those lots, it is a 5- to 8-minute walk to the campus center.

At a later date, the University will determine the best use of capital dollars to meet future parking needs. This report from the Parking Study Task Force will inform the decision-making process.

You’re with friends. You’re on Spring Break. No classes for a week. Having a great time because you planned ahead and you’re making good decisions, such as these:

  1. You left valuables at home because you didn’t want to worry about them back in the room.
  2. You know the local laws, and you realize that what’s legal in Ohio may not be legal in Cancun, Fort Myers or elsewhere.
  3. You’re avoiding consuming too much of everything (sun, food, alcohol…).
  4. You’re traveling in groups, and you’re making good decisions about the people you’re hanging out with.
  5. You checked ahead and you know your cell phone service works in this foreign land.
  6. You took a moment to read the fine print to rental agreements for property (like jet skis, mopeds, cars) or accommodations (rooms), so you understand your end of the deal (do you need additional insurance?).
  7. You have your ID on you — just in case.
  8. You thought twice before making that impulsive decision (applies to tattoos, alcohol, relationships, etc.)

Three other things to keep in mind:

  1. If you are going to Mexico, be aware that the U.S. State Department has issued this travel advisory for college students.
  2. The night before you leave campus, avoid packing your car. You don’t want to tempt anyone. Pack up on the day you leave.
  3. Just to be safe, consider taking home easy-to-pack valuables such as laptops, electronic games, iPods, etc.

Enjoy your time away. We look forward to your return!
