The Office of Multicultural Development presents the Diveristy Award to the student, student organization, and/or faculty/staff member that supports and advocates equity and social justice by collaborating with all segments of the campus community in an effort to improve the campus climate. Recipients of this award are invited to the annual All Campus Recognition Dinner in April.

The Good Mother: Diverse Constructions of the Parenting Role
This presentation will shed light on an aspect of women's identity and women's work that is universal: the parenting role. The purpose of this panel is to discuss variability in the mother role (the beliefs and practices of mothers and how this is shaped by culture and class) and what this means for women in different cultural or socioeconomic contexts. Parking Services Ticket Dismissal Program Continues... March 8

The annual Harvest for Hunger campaign begins this month and Parking Services would like to remind all members of The University of Akron community that they will be continuing their related ticket dismissal program.

In exchange for the donation of a non-perishable food item to the food drive, Parking Services will dismiss one minor parking ticket ($12.50 or less). The ticket must be from the current semester, not from a previous semester. This offer is only extended to current permit holders and campus visitors. Members of the campus community who choose not to purchase a permit are not eligible. There is a limit of one ticket per vehicle for this offer.

In order to dismiss a ticket, Parking Services will need either the license plate number or the ticket number. Please bring the ticket (or vehicle license plate number), along with a food donation, to the Parking Office to dismiss the minor ticket.

Summer-In-Ghana Program March 8

There are a few seats still available for the 2004 Summer-In-Ghana program, an educational tour of the country of Ghana in West Africa. This program is open to any student at The University of Akron and is tentatively scheduled from May 16 to June 7. An informational meeting for those interested in participating will be held Monday, March 8, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the College of Business Administration, Room 273.

Participating students may receive academic credit for selected UA courses (see the website for a list of qualifying courses). Faculty/staff may also be able to participate in the program subject to space availability. Visit the program website at http://www.uakron.edu/cba/ghana/.

The Associated Student Government would like to invite all students to attend the next House of Representatives business meeting of the Spring semester Monday, March 8, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in the Student Union Theatre. An information meeting for those students who cannot attend Monday's business meeting will be held Tuesday, March 10, at the same time and place.

Future meetings will be held April 5 and 6.

A representative from each registered student organization that applies for and receives annual Extracurricular Activities Funding (EAF) is required to attend half (three of six) of the House of Representatives meetings scheduled for the 2003-2004 academic year or a 5% penalty of EAF funding will be assessed the following academic year. Attendance is taken at every meeting.

Housing Fair March 10

The University of Akron Student Union and the University Ambassadors will be sponsoring a Housing Fair for students Wednesday, March 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Ballroom A of the Student Union. This program has been designed and organized by the Student Union to give students an opportunity to do one-stop shopping and to provide access to all the potential rental properties and the requirements of the rental process in the greater Akron area.

Renters and vendors of housing necessities will be on hand showcasing their rental properties and/or services that are available to students. This program will also provide an opportunity for students to set up appointments to see properties and begin the contract process for renting. Also included in the housing fair will be break out sessions in Ballroom D on lease negotiations and signings and on what students need to know before they move in to or out of rental properties.

The University of Akron Circle K Club will be hosting a food collection day Friday, March 12, in the Student Union from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Members will be collecting food to make a meal for the Ronald McDonald House.

Food items Circle K is still in need of include:
elbow macaroni, cream of mushroom soup, milk, sour cream, mild cheddar cheese, frozen peas or peas and carrots, onions, mushrooms, canned tuna fish, shortening, margarine or butter, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, sugar, eggs, vanilla, baking soda, semi-sweet chocolate chips and pecans.

Also, the Circle K Club will be holding a dance Saturday, March 13, from 7:00-11:00 p.m. at St. Bernards Church. This dance is Hawaiian-themed and semi-formal attire is suggested. The cost is $5. A portion of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society to aid in the fight against breast cancer. A DJ and nonalcoholic margaritas will be provided.

His presentation is entitled "The Excitement of Programmatic Research: 30 Years of Goal Setting," which will cover his pioneering theoretical and empirical work in the arenas of goal setting and employee performance. Dr. Latham holds the position of Secretary of State Professor of Organizational Behavior at the University of Toronto's Rotman Business School. His work has been published in numerous books and journals, and he is the past president of the Canadian Psychology Association.

Campus Habitat for Humanity is hosting a Dance-A-Thon Saturday, March 13, from 7:00 p.m. until midnight in Ballroom A of the Student Union. There will be great prizes for a number of categories such as "most creative dance," "the last couple standing" and many more. Food and beverages will be provided!

All students are invited to come dance the night away! Partners will be available for those students who would like to participate.

Students who do not want to enter the contest but would like to come out for a night of fun and dancing are also welcome. The cost to enter the Dance-A-Thon is $10 per person, and the cost to attend but not enter the contest will be $5 per person. Tickets will be sold in the Student Union during the lunch hours beginning Monday, March 8, and will also be available at the door the night of the dance.

Displaced Homemakers Scholarship Deadline March 15

The Verna Trushel Displaced Homemakers Scholarship was established to assist persons forced to seek paid employment to support themselves and their dependents. This scholarship is provided to support the displaced homemaker who desires to enhance employment opportunities by completing academic coursework.

Candidates must have completed 30 undergraduate credit hours applicable toward graduation at an accredited institution of higher education by the end of the Fall semester, earned at least a 2.2 GPA and must be currently enrolled at The University of Akron.

Applications may be obtained at UA Adult Focus in Carroll Hall, Room 55. The application deadline is Monday, March 15.

Even students who have an existing scholarship must renew it by completing the application. Summer aid applications are now available in the Student & Administrative Services Building lobby. Summer aid applications will not be accepted for students without a 2004-2005 FAFSA on file. The deadline to turn in summer aid applications is June 11.
