Portfolio workshop helps students earn college credits with with experience April 16 - May 8

UA's Summit College can save students 44 percent on their tuition through its new Technical Experience Assessment (TEA) portfolio preparation workshops, according to Stephen Motika, assistant dean for student success in Summit College.

Designed for students interested in building portfolios that would allow them to trade their work experience for college credit, the TEA workshops provide step-by-step guidance and instruction on assembling relevant experience into a logical, standardized format — the portfolio — for review by the faculty. Students studying criminal justice, early childhood development, fire protection, computer service technology, emergency medical services, paralegal studies, hospitality management, customer information systems, office administration, marketing and sales, and business management could earn up to 24 semester hours in university credit for their prior experience in these areas.

For more information, visit the Technical Experience Assessment page or call 330-972-2147.

This is a reminder about The University of Akron Annual Golf Outing!

This event is a great opportunity for you to network with firms before The Evening with the Accountants this fall. Many firms will be using this event as a pre-screening process for determining possible candidates for interviews. Don’t miss out on this chance to put yourself at the top of the interviewing lists especially during this economically difficult time.

This year the event will be held on May 22 at Rosemont Country Club in Fairlawn. It will begin at 7:00am with a breakfast, followed by 18 holes of golf with accounting professionals from a number of different firms. Lunch will be served after golf, and it will be a great chance to network with accounting professionals in the area. Also, all students attending lunch will be entered in a drawing for different prizes. Dress for the event is a golf shirt and khaki shorts or pants.

If you would like to play golf, the cost will be $20, and this includes breakfast and lunch. If you do not want to play golf you can attend the lunch at a cost of $15, $10 of which is a security deposit and will be reimbursed when you arrive. ALL students will be entered into the prize drawings even if they do not play golf.

Please RSVP online at the link below by May 1, 2009. Payments for the event can be made to Jen Murphy in the Accounting Department in the CBA.
