Do you want to get paid to study?

Well… it’s not quite that easy but it is one part of the job.

The Department of Residence Life & Housing is looking for resident students to lead study sessions as part of an exciting new academic support program starting next fall. Selected students will be responsible for going out into the campus community and bringing other resident students together to study with them. This is a great opportunity for students wanting to get more involved on campus and looking to meet other students, while earning a little money at the same time. If you’re a resident student with good study skills and would like more information about this position please contact Josh Skerl at HousingGA3@uakron.edu or 330-972-5614.

The Sisters of Tau Beta Sigma-Epsilon Iota are hosting a chili cook-off!

Come help us determine who makes the best chili, and try some tasty desserts, too.

Admission to this event is $3 (what a deal!). The sisters have donated different chilis, and you can try as many as you would like. (There will also be vegetarian chilis for you non-carnivores!) Each chili will have a basket in front, and we're asking everyone to donate money to their favorite chili. The chili that raises the most money wins!

Any funds earned from this event goes directly back to support the University of Akron band program.

The Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies and New Business Legal Clinic are looking for five undergraduate students (Juniors or Seniors to be next year) from any major to participate in an intensive week long entrepreneurship academy over the summer from August 9-14, 2009. The students will learn about various aspects of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship by attending two sessions. The students will live with 30 other students from six universities on the campus of Kent State University.

According to Dr. Todd Finkle and Ms. Denise Easterling from the Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, "This is a significant step forward for the region. This is a university-wide initiative that integrates students not only from all over our university, but with other schools to create synergies. As a group, we realized that we can accomplish much more together than individually. Our goal is to develop entrepreneurs, who will remain in the region after graduation. The economic future of our region will be shaped by students like these. The selected students will return to their home institutions, ready to start the academic year with new knowledge, new skills, and new attitudes about entrepreneurial opportunities here in Northeast Ohio . It won't be all hard work. We will have a variety of activities lined up for the students in the evening such as going to an Indians game. There will be ample opportunities to network and meet a variety of prominent entrepreneurs and business people from the community. It will be an experience of a lifetime."

To be eligible, students must be entering their junior or senior year in any major. Tuition, room, board, text books will be provided at no cost. Students can go to http://www.eecneohio.com/acorn.php to learn how to apply.

The Deadline for applying is May 15, 2009. For more information please contact Dr. Todd A. Finkle at finklet@uakron.edu or Denise Easterling at stockbeaner@yahoo.com.
