Ongoing Risk to Computer Network Requires Password Changes
spacer image
spacer image

spacer image
Due to the ongoing security risk to the University’s computer network, it is important that you change your password every 30 to 60 days. Also, do not post your password on or near your computer. Passwords should be words that cannot be easily guessed. The most secure passwords include special characters and numbers as well as a mixture of upper and lower case letters.

With the exception of a technician who may be working on your computer, do not share your ID and password with anyone. If a technician has worked on your computer, you should change your password as soon as your computer is returned to you or the work is completed.

A link to change your password can be found at http://www.uakron.edu/its or go directly to the password site at https://gozips.uakron.edu/zid/user/password.

For more information, contact the Computer Help Desk at (330) 972-6888.

You will also see polling stations in the Student Union, the Polsky Building, Robertson Dining Hall, Gallucci Hall and Bierce Library the week of March 29, 2004 and can take the poll in person. Four teams of students with “the entrepreneurial spirit” have been selected to present their business plans at the 3rd Annual University-wide Business Plan Competition. The Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies is hosting the event on Saturday, April 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Martin University Center. Faculty, staff, students and the general public are invited to attend.

The four teams and plans that were selected are:

Charla Hill, Ozgu Ozturk, Anthony Moraco and Ron Shabaya
Molecular Constructs LLC worked with Dr. Charles Moorefield, a co-inventor on nine patents including the one under review for this company, in the development of a business that develops a new group of dendrimers which will allow for the development of many new innovative products. Dr. Moorefield is an assistant professor at The University of Akron.

Than Thein and Mike Anderson
Tidal Gardens seeks to service the saltwater aquarium industry both domestically and internationally through the aquaculture of living coral.

Deenu Kanjackal, Pritam Das and Dave Young
Polymeric Drug Delivery Systems (PDDC) LLC was formed in 2003 to help people who have developed intimal hyperplasia (IH). The company’s current focus is in the development of its product, PolyRing, a time-controlled, local delivery drug device. The goal of PolyRing is to reduce or eliminate the need of further surgeries caused by IH. Tests show that one way to reduce or eliminate the reoccurrence of IH is to attack the exact area that is most susceptible to it with a prescribed medication. Therefore, when a person has their first surgery to get rid of IH, a PolyRing device would be filled with a drug and clamped around an artery, and because PolyRing is a controlled local delivery device, the medicine can be released to the exact spot where IH would form and the medicine would prevent IH from forming again or at least slow down the reoccurrence of IH.

Tom Connor, John Brunovsky, Michael Shneider and Vivek Tomer
Medtrite, Inc. Using a patented technology from The University of Akron involving Nitric Oxide, Medtrite is a company that was formulated to take advantage of a variety of markets. The company has worked with Dr. Dan Smith, a professor of Biomedical Engineering at Akron, who has developed a product that can increase blood flow to any area on which it is applied. This technology can prove useful in the medical industry, such as wound care, diabetic ulcer therapy, and the treatment for Female Sexual Arousal Disorder (FSAD). The domestic market potential for FSAD alone is estimated at $3 billion.

The students will have the opportunity to gain feedback on their business plans from industry experts. They will also vie for cash prizes. Judges will award $3,000 to the top business plan, $2,000 for second place and $1,000 for third.

The keynote speaker for the event is Ms. Sandy Pianalto, President of the Federal Reserve Bank in Cleveland. President Luis M. Proenza will also speak and participate in the presentation of awards.

Please RSVP to Dr. Todd Finkle, Associate Professor of Management and Fitzgerald Institute Fellow, at
(330) 972-8479 or finklet@uakron.edu to attend.
