OSD Leadership Award Deadline Extended
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Do you know or are you an outstanding member/officer in your student organization? Are you proud of a creative or diverse event that your organization has sponsored this year? Would you like to honor your student organization's faculty advisor for his/her outstanding contribution to your group? We have many outstanding leaders at our University and we would like to honor YOU!

The Office of Student Development is extending the deadline for Leadership Award applications and nominations to Friday, April 2 by 5:00 p.m. for the following awards:

A-Key
Sponsored by the Associated Student Government, the A-Key award was established in 1924 to recognize achievements by an undergraduate in scholastics, campus involvement and service to The University of Akron. Applicants must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours with an accumulated 2.3 GPA to qualify for the award. The ASG Awards Commission utilizes a point system as its major criterion to determine the awarding of an A-Key.

Creativity Award
This award recognizes a registered student organization for sponsoring an activity or program that exhibits a novel or innovative approach to meeting the program objectives.

Diversity Programming Award
The Diversity Programming Award recognizes a registered student organization for sponsoring a creative program or activity, which focuses on encouraging the University community to understand and celebrate diversity.

Outstanding Member
Applicant must be a registered student at The University of Akron for the past academic year, a member for two consecutive semesters (fall through spring) and hold a minimum accumulative G.P.A. of 2.5. Applicant must be a member of a student group in good standing but should not be an Executive Officer.

Outstanding Officer
Applicant must be a registered student at The University of Akron for the past academic year, an executive officer in a registered student organization for a minimum of two (2) consecutive semesters (spring through spring) and hold a minimum accumulative GPA of 2.5. Applicant must be a member of a student group in good standing.

Outstanding Freshman Involvement Award
This award, coordinated by the Office of Student Development, was developed at The University of Akron in 1996 to recognize a first-year freshman student for campus involvement and leadership, as well as strong scholarship. This award consists of a $100 cash prize and an award plaque.

Outstanding Co-Curricular Advisor Award
The Outstanding Co-Curricular Advisor Award was developed to recognize outstanding examples of leadership, guidance and support by the faculty/contract professional advisor of an undergraduate student organization at The University of Akron. The Associated Student Government Awards Commission, one faculty member at large and the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs select the award recipient and present this honor at the annual All Campus Recognition Dinner in April. Any student who is a member of a registered student organization may make nominations by completing the nomination form. A student may make more than one nomination for this award; however, a student cannot nominate the same advisor twice. Any faculty, contract professional or administrator employed by The University of Akron and who has been actively involved as the faculty advisor of a registered student organization for at least two (2) years is eligible for consideration. This award targets those faculty advisors who volunteer their expertise and time to registered student organizations. Those who advise organizations that fall within the scope of their job responsibilities will receive less consideration for this award.

Go to http://www.uakron.edu/studentaff/osd/leader.php for additional information and applications! Leadership Award applications and nominations are returned to the Office of Student Development, Carroll Hall, Room 305.

All award recipients will be honored at the 2004 All Campus Recognition Dinner Tuesday evening, April 20 in the Student Union Grand Ballroom.

Graduate Student Government is looking for executive, judicial and board members to serve for the 2004-2005 school term. In reponse to an email that was distributed last week, an informational session has been set up to inform those interested of the purpose, activities and requirements of Graduate Student Government. This session will be held in the Polsky Building, Room 465, on Thursday, April 1, at 2:00 p.m.

An evening meeting is also being planned for those who are unable to attend the afternoon session. The date and time will soon follow.

Anyone interested in serving on the executive or judicial board or becoming an officer, please email either a resume or a letter of interest stating the position s/he is interested in and qualifications for that position to Bridgett Welch at bdw9@uakron.edu.

Please remember that applicants will not be excluded from serving on these boards or as an officer for lack of experience in a prior ASG or GSG organization. For example, an MBA major would make an excellent candidate for the finance committee.

For more information, please contact Bridgett Welch at (330) 972-8233 or email bdw9@uakron.edu.

Assistance and training will be provided for non-resident students, faculty and staff members to prepare taxes Friday, April 2, from 1:30-4:00 p.m. in the Polsky Building, Room 402.

Students that are required to complete the 1040NR or 1040 NR EZ may get help there. Students should take their W2 form; social security card; 1042S form (treaty form if you have one); a previous year's taxes if possible; visa, passport or greencard with them.

Associated Student Government - AARP Vita program has no appointments remaining for international tax preparation.

Students are encouraged to attend the seminar to file earlier or to get assistance if they do not have a scheduled appointment.

All other students can still get assistance on Wednesdays from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and Thursdays from
1:00-6:00 p.m. However, patience is requested, as this is a very hectic time for the preparers because preparation for international students who have appointments takes a little longer.
