Two New and Improved Features in ZipLine

The Office of the University Registrar is pleased to announce that beginning Monday, June 29, 2009, two new and improved record requests will be available in ZipLine. You will be able to print your own enrollment verification instantly. The verification will look exactly like the verification produced by the University Registrar and the Student Services Center. You will also be able to obtain an official academic transcript by 10:00am of the next business day just by requesting it in ZipLine. As an added bonus, the next-day service is absolutely free. Remember to login to ZipLine the next time that you need an enrollment verification or an official academic transcript!

Holiday schedule for July 3-4

As you know, the University will be closed and no classes will be held on Friday, July 3, when UA observes the Fourth of July holiday.

In addition, on Saturday, July 4, no classes will be held and most campus services, including University Libraries and the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, will be closed for the day.

Summer Tutoring Help at Bierce Library

The Office of Student Academic Success will provide tutoring assistance in Bierce 69 throughout the summer.

Bierce Writing Lab: Bierce Writing Lab will be open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during all three summer sessions. Writing assistance is available to all students across disciplines. Call 330-972-6548 to make an appointment.

Math Lab: The Math Lab will offer tutoring for students in math classes ranging from Basic Math through Calculus and Differential Equations. To learn about hours and the availability of tutors, students can call 330-972-5214.

Subject Tutoring: Limited subject tutoring will be available in biology, chemistry, physics, and accounting. Call 330-972-5214 to learn about hours and availability.

Student Organization Funding Workshops June 26

A Message from ASG President, Jason Ziegler on student organization funding:

I understand student organization leaders have been awaiting an update about the new student organization funding process, and over the past several months ASG and the Department of Student Life have worked hard to revamp and improve how student organizations apply for funding. Revisions include a new application process, new forms, and the former name, EAF (Extracurricular Activity Fund process) will now be known as the Undergraduate Activity Fund process (UAF). Also, student organizations will now apply for funding requests each semester that funds are needed.

Beginning Friday June 26, 2009 ASG will provide information and training workshops for student organizations about how to obtain funds through the UAF process, over the summer.

In order to ensure that student organization representatives understand UAF and have adequate time to request funding we have developed the following timeline for Fall 2009 funding requests for Student Organizations:

Organizations can RSVP for a workshop of their choice by emailing ASG at asg@uakron.edu. Include in the email your contact information including, name, position, organization, email and telephone number.

ASG will then conduct a new series of Mandatory workshops beginning Friday, September 18, 2009 for Spring of 2010 funding requests, upon the completion of the submission and ASG final ASG approval for the Fall 2009 UAF process.

Sales experience is preferred but not required. Jumpstart is hiring for next school year!

Jumpstart is an AmeriCorps program that recruits college students (of all majors) to mentor 3-5 year old children. Read stories, sing songs, and play games that support young children’s school readiness, language & literacy.

Earn a Federal Work-Study wage (if eligible) and an AmeriCorps education award voucher of $1000 while completing a 300hr term of service. Jumpstart Corps members work approx 11 hours a week in local early childhood centers, paired one-to-one with a partner child & working to support preschool classrooms.

Availability to work requires one of the following options:
Tue & Thu (2:30p-6p) OR
Wed & Fri (2:30p-6p) OR
Wed & Fri (1:30p-5pm)

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students.
