Beginning today, if you are an undergraduate or law degree-seeking student with a valid UAnet ID and password, you will be directed to ZipLine to apply for graduation. This new feature will be complemented by the utilization of the To Do List in the ZipLine Student Center.

The self-service graduation application will replace the printed application for all undergraduate and law students. Printed graduation applications will no longer be accepted by the Office of the University Registrar. ZipLine will encourage you to verify the accuracy of your academic college, major(s) and minor(s), if applicable, will provide directions for remedying problems that prevent the submission of a graduation application and will allow you to track the progress of your degree clearance. Step-by-step instructions for submitting a graduation application in ZipLine are available by clicking the Graduation Services link in the “Quick Links for Students” section of ZipLine.

If you are a graduate student, you will still need to submit a completed Advancement to Candidacy to the Graduate School but will be able to track the progress of your degree clearance in your To Do List.

Student Organization Funding Training Workshop July 9 - Aug. 7

A Message from ASG President, Jason Ziegler on student organization funding:

I understand student organization leaders have been awaiting an update about the new student organization funding process, and over the past several months ASG and the Department of Student Life have worked hard to revamp and improve how student organizations apply for funding. Revisions include a new application process, new forms, and the former name, EAF (Extracurricular Activity Fund process) will now be known as the Undergraduate Activity Fund process (UAF). Also, student organizations will now apply for funding requests each semester that funds are needed.

Beginning Friday June 26, 2009 ASG will provide information and training workshops for student organizations about how to obtain funds through the UAF process, over the summer.

In order to ensure that student organization representatives understand UAF and have adequate time to request funding we have developed the following time line for Fall 2009 funding requests for Student Organizations:
Organizations can RSVP for a workshop of their choice by emailing ASG at asg@uakron.edu. Include in the email your contact information including, name, position, organization, email and telephone number.

TubaSummer—a summertime version of Akron’s popular TubaChristmas —is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a free concert on Sunday, July 19, 7 p.m., on Buchtel Common at The University of Akron.

Free and open to the public, the concert will feature summer favorites performed by tuba, sousaphone, baritone and euphonium musicians from throughout the region. Alumni of the Miller-South School for the Visual and Performing Arts' Steel Drum Band will perform from 6 to 7 p.m.

The concert will be on the grass amphitheater adjacent to Guzzetta Hall and near the renowned artist Dale Chihuly’s towering blue polymer sculpture. Guzzetta Hall is at 139 E. Buchtel Ave., across from E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall and the Polymer Science Building on the UA campus. The rain location is Guzetta Recital Hall, 139 E. Buchtel Ave.

Audience members are invited to bring picnics, blankets, and lawn chairs. Free parking will be available in campus lots and decks.

Tucker Jolly, the founder of Akron’s TubaChristmas and a professor of music at The University of Akron (UA), will conduct. Musicians are invited to perform. The only rehearsal is the afternoon of the performance. To register to play, contact Tucker Jolly at 330-972-6641 or trjolly@uakron.edu.

The University of Akron School of Music is the sponsor of TubaSummer, which began on Cascade Plaza in downtown Akron.

Tucker Jolly joined UA’s music faculty in 1980 and began Akron’s TubaChristmas that same year. The first performance was held outside on the Cascade Plaza with 55 musicians. TubaChristmas has grown into a popular community tradition that draws capacity audiences and hundreds of musicians for two yearly performances. This year’s 30th anniversary event will be Saturday, Dec. 19, with free performances at noon and 2:30 p.m. at E.J. Thomas Hall at The University of Akron.

For more information about TubaSummer, contact 330-972-8301 or concerts@uakron.edu.
