HAT: food, fun, and games!
WHERE: Student Union Ballrooms at the University of Akron
WHEN: November 22, 2009 1PM - 10PM
WHY: To have fun and raise money for Akron Children's Hospital!
ADMISSION: $20 in advance / $25 at the door (or a game/toy donation)

Child's Play Charity is a gamer's organization started by Penny Arcade. They help collect toy and video game donations for local children's hospitals, so that children who are forced to spend time in hospitals have something to take their mind off of their illness. Nationwide, Child's Play has raised over $5 million in donations.

This year, the University of Akron student chapter of the ACM will be hosting a LAN party to benefit Child's Play and Akron Children's Hospital. There will be free food, PC, console and tabletop gaming, a guitar hero tournament, and much more!

Admission to the fun is only $20 in advance, or $25 at the door. We will also accept the equivalent in new or used toys or video games. Advance tickets will be available at tables in the student union during the week of November 16. Check this space soon for online registration.

A list of games will be available prior to the event. For now, if you have a specific game you want to play, leave us a message in the forums on our website or the wall of our facebook event, and we'll make it happen.

This event is open to everyone, including students, non-students, hardcore gamers, casual gamers, and n00bs. So please invite all of your friends!

You can RSVP for our event on facebook.

Check out Akron Children's Hospital's Amazon Wishlist and a list of suggested toys to donate

Parking, shuttle service changes for Friday only - DELETE
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
On Friday, UA will host a football game, two soccer matches and a basketball game. As a result, parking and the schedule for the Roo Express shuttle are being adjusted.

  • All motorists: Parking Services is asking motorists to vacate lots on the east side of campus by 5 p.m. tomorrow. The affected lots are in brown on this map. Also, three east-side lots will close at midnight tonight. If you normally park on the east side, you may want to arrive on campus a few minutes early on Friday to find another space. Parking on Fridays is usually lighter, so it should be a brief search.
  • Basketball fans: The women’s basketball team will play at noon Friday in Rhodes Arena. People who want to attend the game may park for free on the second, third and fourth levels of the East Campus Parking Deck (see on map). Open spaces on the first level (accessible from Carroll Street) will be set aside for motorists with disabilities.
  • Soccer fans: UA is hosting the MAC Tournament semifinals tomorrow (Hartwick/Western Michigan at 3 p.m., followed by Akron/Northern Illinois at 6 p.m.) Soccer fans can park for free in the East, Exchange Street (map) or Shrank (map) decks. Lot 34 (west of the Computer Center) and Lot 43 (south of the Buckingham Building) will be reserved for football tailgating. It will cost $5 to park there.
  • Football fans: Lots will open at 4 p.m. Parking will be $5, except for students with a valid permit, who can park for free. See parking tips and advice.
  • Roo Express shuttle users: The shuttle will suspend normal service between 5:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., except for the West route, which will operate as usual. Between 5:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., the shuttles will transport fans between downtown and InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field. At 12:30 a.m., only the shuttle’s downtown route will resume.
