Pancake Breakfast May 2

Phi Gamma Delta invites students to fill their bellies with all-you-can-eat pancakes Sunday, May 2 from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The pancake breakfast will be held at the Phi Gamma Delta house at 261 Spicer St.

The cost is only $4 for two sausage links and all-you-can-eat pancakes. Finals are aproaching so sit back and relax while Phi Gamma Delta serves you!

The University of Akron Alumni Association and the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles are offering the Collegiate License Plate Program. Through this program, UA students living in Ohio can buy special license plates featuring the name and seal of The University of Akron.

The cost is just $35 in addition to the annual vehicle registration fee. Of that $35, The University of Akron receives $25. These funds are used to support scholarships for students.

These special ZIP license plates with three numbers and the letters "ZIP" are limited.

Sidewalk Closures

The Schrank Hall sidewalk is closed for construction due to improvements to Lee Jackson Field.

Over the next few months, more changes to campus circulation will occur for construction of new walks and landscaping on Carroll, Union and Wolf Ledges streets. Additional updates will be posted as work progresses along with links to pedestrian route maps.

A graduate violin recital featuring violinist Jeff Leigh and accompanists Lisa Madaffer and Alex Kunu will be held Wednesday, May 5, from 8:00-9:30 p.m. in Guzzetta Recital Hall. The recital will feature music by Beethoven, Faure, Stravinsky, Mozart and Ysaye.

Admission is free and a reception will follow the recital.

Tuition Due Date Announcement

"Don't Lose Class"--the Summer 2004 payment due date is Thursday, May 6! Please pay your student account in full or sign up for The University of Akron Installment Payment Plan by the May 6 due date. Also, keep in mind that if you enroll for Summer classes on or after the May 6 due date, your payment is due on the date of registration. Remember, due dates are based on the date of enrollment, regardless of the session start date.

Registration for the Fall 2004 term has already begun. Your student account will be available on the Web to view as early as Monday, May 3. Please verify that your financial aid is pending and that all paperwork is complete. Payment for the Fall 2004 term is due on August 13, so please pay your account in full or sign up for the Installment Payment Plan by the August 13 due date. As with Summer, any Fall 2004 enrollment on or after the Fall due date (August 13) is due on the date of registration. Please plan ahead and avoid long lines or any unnecessary frustration.

Payments can be made on the Web, by mail or in person at the Student & Administrative Services Building.

The intersection of Forge and Hill streets will be reopened by the end of the day Friday, May 7.

Buchtel Avenue, at approximately 20 feet west of the Buchtel/College street intersection, will be closed for three weeks beginning Monday, May 10 to install the chilled water line for the new Student Services building. Traffic will be detoured north to Forge Street and then to Hill Street.

Special Summer Hours for the Office of the University Registrar

The Office of the University Registrar will maintain special hours of operation during the first week of the Summer 2004 term. Hours of operation are as follows:

Monday, May 10, through Wednesday, May 12 - 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Thursday, May 13, and Friday, May 14 - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Beginning the second week of the Summer 2004 term, the Office of the University Registrar will return to normal hours of operation for the summer:

The Office of Student Financial Aid hours of operation for Summer 2004 are as follows:

Week of May 10:
Monday-Wednesday, May 10-12 - 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Thursday and Friday, May 13 and 14 - 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Week of May 17 through the end of summer, the normal hours of operation will be as follows:
Monday, Thursday and Friday - 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Tuesday and Wednesday - 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Students are also reminded that in order to use financial aid for Summer 2004, they must complete the 2004-2005 FAFSA and the Summer Aid Application. Summer Aid Applications are available in the Student & Administrative Services Building lobby. Summer aid deadline is June 11. Financial aid used in the Summer will take away from Fall 2004/Spring 2005 semester awards.

The Fall 2004/Spring 2005 continuing student (undergraduate/graduate/law) award notifications will be available to students the first part of June 2004.

It is not too late to complete the 2004-2005 FAFSA for Fall 2004/Spring 2005. The 2004-2005 FAFSA can be completed by paper or online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.

The University of Akron's Zipmail is a compilation of University announcements for University students, sent each Friday unless circumstances require otherwise. The deadline for submissions to be considered by the University is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students. Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship, or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments.
