Easier access to libraries' resources and services
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
University Libraries, in collaboration with Information Technology Services (ITS), has implemented remote access to e-resources using UAnet ID and password. ITS has provided a secure proxy server and University Libraries has re-configured the links for thousands of e-resources – databases, e-journals and e-books – to authenticate users via this secure proxy server.

Users are no longer required to select, download, install, configure and run a VPN (virtual private network) client on their computers to access these e-resources remotely. Whether starting from the catalog or from the web site, users are simply prompted for their UAnet ID and password. Users running VPN for other reasons, such as access to departmental H-drives, may still choose to access library resources via VPN.

University Libraries has also deployed new library system software that enables users to manage their library accounts, renew materials and request materials from the UA Libraries Catalog or the OhioLINK Central Catalog using their UAnet ID and password instead of a special barcode and PIN.

Why is UA asking where I live during the school year?
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Starting this week, students logging into ZipLine will be asked to provide a semester address. Your semester address is where you live during the school year.

Why is the university asking for a semester address? We will use this information to set Roo Express shuttle routes and to develop additional services to serve students who live just off campus. UA will not share your information with any outside group.

This address will not be used as a mailing address for any official university business. University business will continue to be sent to your permanent or mailing address.

Have a question? Send it to ask@uakron.edu.

The University of Akron's African Student Association is hosting a seminar which will address the stereotypes many people have of Africa. What you see on TV is not always true, there is more to Africa than you think. This event is not a lecture, but a dicussion seminar and we encourage everyone to bring as many questions as they can think of. There will be student panels from different countries there to answer questions and explain their experiences growing up. This event is set to take place Tuesday March 9, 2010, at 7:00 PM in the Student Union Theater.

The Hunger Awareness Dinner can be that one small step they need to bring hope and shine light on problems right here in the United States. Come out on March 30th 2010 with a small donation of $5 which will help feed our future as well as yourself (possibly) that night. When you give such a small donation you will receive a ticket with a number 1-4 corresponding with the meals that are available. The choice of the meals that night range from a nice sit down dinner, a sack lunch, a simple bagel and water or nothing but awareness in a bag. All the money made from ZPN’s First annual Hunger Awareness Dinner will be donated to feed our future and help children all around the United States go to bed with a stomach full of food and hope for tomorrow.
If you have any questions or would like to help out please email me Kelsea Harris at zpncommunity@uakron.edu
