Orientation Leaders Needed for New International Student Orientation! Aug. 2 - Aug. 17

The Office of International Programs (OIP) is looking for bright, enthusiastic, energetic, positive people to help us welcome the new international students to The University of Akron. If this describes you, please consider being an orientation leader for Fall 2010!

Orientation leaders not only guide the students in their group through the orientation program, but also often serve as a peer mentor or friend to the students as they adjust to life at UA and in America. Leaders are involved in short skits during orientation and help their students participate in various activities.

Leaders must be available for training during August 2-6, 9 & 10. Orientation will be held August 11, 13, & 16. Leaders must be able to attend all three days of orientation and training to be eligible. The training will be set during our first meeting on Friday, July 23 at 3:00 p.m. in the OIP (Polsky 483). Orientation leaders will receive an OIP T-shirt; a UA sweatshirt; breakfast, lunch and dinner on August 11; breakfast and lunch on August 13; and a free ticket to the Around the World Party on September 24.

SWIM LESSONS FOR CHILDREN & ADULTS BEGIN SOON! July 12 - Aug. 5

The next session of American Red Cross Learn to Swim Lessons will begin during the Week of July 12, 2010. Certified instructors will teach swimming skills for Adults and Children 18 months and older. Lessons are available for the community, students, and members and will be held at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center and Ocasek Natatorium pools. Classes will be offered Monday & Wednesday mornings as well as Tuesday & Thursday evenings. Registration is limited, and the deadline for registration is by 5pm on Friday, July 9th. Wishing to learn a fun new water sport this summer?

The Sailing Club at the University of Akron is looking to expand their membership!

Sailing Club at the University of Akron was created in 2008 and currently sails aboard its Club FJ on the Portage Lakes, about 20 minutes from campus. Club activities include sailing lessons, recreational sailing events, on-shore get-togethers and sailboat racing. The team competes against other schools in the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association.

Sailors of all experience levels are encouraged to join. Previous sailing or racing experience is not necessary. The only requirement for membership is an interest in sailing and full-time student status at The University of Akron.

Zipmail is a University of Akron communication vehicle established for the benefit of The University of Akron to communicate with its students.
