THE POSITION: Student Assistant for Digital Design and Virtual Marketing reports to the L.E.G.O. Marketing Manager. The L.E.G.O. Marketing Manger and Marketing Supervisor have the responsibility for overseeing the marketing functions for The Department of Student Life. The Student Assistant for Digital Design and Virtual Marketing supports the L.E.G.O. Marketing Manager and the Marketing Supervisor with campus events, digital signage, and web maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Characteristic duties and responsibilities of the Student Assistant for Digital Design and Virtual Marketing

• L.E.G.O. Program: Participate in the academic component and maintain the expectations as outlined in the L.E.G.O. manual and Student Employee Handbook.
• Professional Development: Create innovative virtual marketing pieces using the provided technology.
• Staff: Attend all supervisory meetings, area meetings and mentor meetings.
• Execution: Develop marketing requests from design to publication once received from L.E.G.O. Marketing Manager. Utilize Student Life camera, Dot:CMS, Adobe Creative Suite and Digital Signage software as needed to complete work assignments.

Job Requirements:
• Must be enrolled in 12 undergraduate credit hours. Must have and maintain 2.25 cumulative G.P.A.
• Able and willing to work 15-20 hours/week.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suites.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership ability.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, in a timely manner, and meet project deadlines.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to provide polite and friendly customer service, and display a positive attitude toward the Student Union, its Vision Statement and The University of Akron.
• Experience working with students of diverse educational, racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Adobe Flash Video, photography, web design and layout.
• Declared major in Graphic Design, Marketing, Advertising, or related fields preferred.


*Training on Dot:CMS (a web design program) and Digital Signage software will be provided. No prior experience with these programs is necessary.*

Graduate Assistantship Available – Department of Student Judicial Affairs

The Department of Student Judicial Affairs (SJA) is committed to promoting student development and a community environment that is both safe and conducive for learning. We achieve this mission by educating students about their rights and responsibilities as members of the UA community, informing university staff and faculty about the Code of Student Conduct and the SJA process, promoting accountability and responsible behavior for all members of the university, preserving a balance between the needs of individuals and the community and by treating each member of our community with respect while ensuring university procedures are followed.

The Department of Student Judicial Affairs (SJA) is seeking a Graduate Assistant who is well organized, highly self-motivated, team players that has strong written and oral communication skills. The Graduate Assistant for Student Judicial Affairs reports directly to the Director of Student Judicial Affairs. The small, yet dynamic departmental staff includes 2 professional staff, a graduate assistant, an administrative assistant and may have 1-2 graduate interns on a semester by semester basis.

Graduate Assistant Responsibilities include:
• Engage: Present proactive, educational programming for students, faculty and staff at New Student Orientation and during first-year student success seminar courses
• Administer: Assist the department with the administration of fact finding meetings, educational conferences, hearing boards
• Investigate: Investigate information related to cases, follow up with referral sources, communicate with University Police and campus departments to learn more about student misconduct
• Plan: Help plan and implement the University Hearing Board recruitment and training process annually
• Assess: Use diverse range of assessment measurement tools to include in annual department report and conduct file audits on a monthly basis
• Maintain: Update and maintain the Student Judicial Affairs website, policies, procedures, and implement best practices into the conduct process
• Facilitate: Maintain student conduct records and the collection of statistical data in order to monitor the campus climate and address critical issues such as crime, academic misconduct, drug and alcohol abuse etc.
• Represent: Represent the department on campus committees as assigned
• Benchmark: Conduct research on institutional best practices in the field of conduct administration

Qualifications: The ideal candidate must be a well-organized, highly self-motivated person with:
• A bachelors degree and pursuing a masters degree in higher education administration, counseling, social work, law or closely related area
• An articulate understanding of the mission of Student Judicial Affairs and interest in student development
• Experience working with students of diverse educational, racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
• Excellent written and oral communications skills

The University of Akron School of Law is sponsoring an open house for all those considering law school in fall 2011 and beyond. The program will be held at the school of law on Saturday, July 31, 2010, from 11:30 am until 3:15 p.m. The program will include a building tour, a welcome address from Dean Martin H. Belsky, a student/alumni panel discussion, a presentation on admissions and financial aid, and a mock law class taught by a law professor. This program is free and open to the public. Volunteer to Welcome International Students to America & UA During Orientation Aug. 11 - Aug. 13

The Office of International Programs (OIP) is looking for outgoing, positive volunteers to welcome new students the morning of International Student Orientation. Volunteers will meet the new students in the lobby of the Martin University Center as they arrive and make them feel welcome as they wait to check-in at orientation. If you like to meet new people from different cultures and strike up conversations - this is for you! Volunteers are expected to work 8:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11. Coffee, tea, and breakfast will be available during the shift.

The OIP also needs two to three volunteers to work at the orientation packet table handing out informational packets to the new students. Volunteers will be expected to work from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on both August 11 & 13, in the Martin University Center. Coffee, tea, and breakfast will be available during both shifts.
