Residence Hall Network (UARH) Bandwidth Doubled
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
In a move to ensure the reliability and performance of the University’s academic network while providing Residence Hall students with internet access, Information Technology Services (ITS) created UAHR, a separate network for students in the residence halls. The new network was launched just before the Fall semester. After the start of the semester the network’s capacity proved to be too small to adequately meet the demands of RH’s students.

ITS responded by significantly increasing the capacity on UARH earlier this week. We intend to increase the capacity even more on or before September 24. It will take the next two weeks to acquire and install the equipment required to handle the additional network capacity.

Even with the increased capacity, it is important that students in the Residence Halls be aware that online movies, gaming, streaming, and other high-bandwidth-consumption activities slow down the network. Please minimize your non-academic bandwidth consumption so the University doesn’t reach a point where it must ration bandwidth like many other universities currently do.

If you are still experiencing network slowdowns, please contact the Support Desk at supportdesk@uakron.edu or 330-972-6888 with your Residence Hall name, time of the slowdown, and applications/websites you were trying to access at the time.

Shoop Groop brings the Buchtelite buzz back
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
That Anthony Schupp guy is at it again. If you recall, last year "Shoop" made it rain $20 bills all over campus. Each winner became the newest member of the "Shoop Groop", with his or her picture in the following issue.

Well, that same marketing promotion is back and you, the reader, get to reap the benefits as you slip twenty bones in your wallet.

What's the catch? It's simple. Find Shoop, be the lucky numbered person (it's printed on the bottom of the front page), pass a ridonkulously easy quiz about the Buchtelite, and win instant money. He will be all over campus every Tuesday and Thursday rocking his coveted black-on-black "330" cap.

Got a hot date? Need some spending money? Let Shoop fund it. All you have to do is grab an ice-cold "B-lite", get smashed off some knowledge, hammer the quiz and then get buzzed off that $20 bill.

This guy isn't shy so you shouldn't be either.
