Do not respond to “Help Desk/Quota Limit” email Oct. 28 - Nov. 25

spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
You may have received a new phishing email with the subject line “Help Desk” that was sent to UA email accounts. The email says that you have “exceeded the set quota/limit” for your web mail.

This is NOT a message from the University’s Support Desk. This is a phishing message. Do not respond to the request. Do not click on “CLICK HERE”..

Here is the message. You may have received this or some version of this message.

"From: Raja Jyothi, Nilambur Kovilakam [mailto:RajaJ@unaids.org]
Sent: Tuesday, October 26, 2010 10:20 AM
To: info@notice.org
Subject: Help Desk

Your Web mail Quota Has Exceeded the Set Quota/Limit Which Is 20GB. Your Are Currently Running On 23GB due to hidden files and folder on your Mailbox. Please you are to click the below lick to Validate Your Mailbox and Increase Your Quota.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Help Desk"

If you responded to an e-mail request to provide a password or have questions, contact the UA Support Desk (Help Desk) at ext. 6888 to change your password.

As a reminder, Information Technology Services is warning students, faculty and staff to disregard and delete any e-mails that ask for personal information like passwords, even if the e-mail appears to come from a University of Akron e-mail address. These messages are usually from an unknown source outside of the University, and they are an attempt to fraudulently obtain sensitive information in order to assume the recipient's identity.

There are times when members of the ITS Computer Support Center may ask you for your password so that they may assist you, but those requests will be in person or over the phone. They will never ask for a password by e-mail.

A few tips to stay secure:
• Do not click on links in suspicious emails or from unknown source.
• Do not give your password to anyone including employees of The University of Akron. No one needs to know your password even to assist you with problems using the University's services.
• If someone claims to work for the University and claims to need your password, report this to Support Center staff immediately.
• Never respond to requests for personal information via e-mail or in a pop-up window
• Be suspicious by default. Do not visit sites via links imbedded in emails requesting personal information. Use bookmarks or type in the URL that you know is valid (i.e., for your bank, ebay, etc.)
• Do not be put at ease by language that suggests a concern for your security
• For more information on how to identify phishing scams and to how to recognize fraudulent web links, visit: http://www.uakron.edu/its/learning/training/Phishing.php

United Way of Summit County is excited to announce the seventh annual Docs Who Rock show. Local physicians have put together excellent bands with a variety of musical talents ranging from Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 to "Life is a Highway".

One of the highlights of this year’s show is the much anticipated return to the Docs Who Rock stage of Dr. Terry Gordon. Over the years, Dr. Gordon has imitated a variety of pop culture icons, including Rod Stewart, Austin Powers, Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Barry Manilow and Tina Turner. We are all excited to see what he will bring this year.

Tickets are on sale at E.J. Thomas box office or at ticketmaster.com for $12 or $25 for seats in the ‘Surgical Arena’ section (so you can see them operate up close). Another option for hungry music fans is ‘Take Two With Food,’ which includes two Surgical Arena seats and a $50 gift certificate to Luigi’s Restaurant for just $80.

U of Akron students can get tickets for half price! General admission tickets are just $6 for students!

Proceeds of the event benefit United Way of Summit County, helping our community to LIVE UNITED though giving, advocating, and volunteering.
