Secure your possessions before leaving for Thanksgiving
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Students who live off-campus: Before you head home for Thanksgiving, here are a few tips to help keep your belongings safe.

  • Lock all doors and windows when you leave.
  • If you have a landline phone, turn off the ringer and leave your voicemail on, but don’t leave a message saying that you’re away.
  • Leave a light on, or put a light on a timer so it looks like someone is home.
  • Put a hold on your mail (you can do it here online).
  • Don’t pack your car the night before you leave. It may take only a minute for a determined thief to break in.
  • Take your electronics with you.
  • Resist the urge to Twitter or Facebook what you will do over break. Tech savvy criminals will know your house/room is empty. Better to publish what a great time you had after you return.

This information comes from UA's new Off-Campus Student Services office, a one-stop resource for students who live off campus or plan to live off campus. Visit the office's website.

It used to be known that the world was flat. It used to be known that Newtonian mechanics accurately described the world. Was this in fact knowledge? Eric Copenhaver will present on these and related issues. His presentation is designed to survey some issues in the philosophy of science and to explore whether or not science is the sort of discipline that can give us knowledge of reality.
