Swimming and Diving to Raise Funds for Relay for Life Dec. 2 - Dec. 5
Time: n/a
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
The University of Akron swimming and diving team will be helping out a more than worthy cause by participating in this year’s American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

The event is put on every year to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and to fight back against the disease.

The event will take place Friday, April 15 at 4 p.m. to Saturday, April 16
at 10 a.m. but the team will be helping to raise awareness for the event at the annual Zippy Invitational Dec. 3-5.

This year, the swimming and diving team will be celebrating the memory of Wendi Bowling, junior Meghan Bowling’s late mother, by raising funds in her honor, along with other family members and friends that have been lost to the disease.

“Our team's reason to relay is to help support the American Cancer Society and make a difference in putting an end to cancer as it has affected our families, friends, and the lives of our teammates,” senior Brigid Wolf said.

The team will be wearing pink swimming caps and donations will be accepted during the event.

“This team has been involved in Relay for Life here on Akron’s campus for the past several years,” UA coach Nittaya Klim said. “It is the one outreach event each year about which they feel the most passionate, and they are extremely dedicated to their efforts surrounding the event.”

To donate to the swimming and diving Relay for Life team, follow the link at the top of the page.

“We’ve all been touched in some way by this disease through family or friends, and for current and recent team members, this year is especially meaningful since it has recently hit close to home,” Klim said. “I am very proud of the dedication that Akron Swimming and Diving has to this cause and especially their willingness to make a difference.”

With numerous education applications, as well as strategies for textbooks, research and integration, the iPad is becoming a tremendous tool for 21st Century Learning.

We will spend time learning about the Apps that are native to the iPad, and investigate some of the resources that are available on iTunes U. We will also look at some of the Apps that are available from 3rd Party developers that enhance teaching and learning in the classroom.
