Students are encouraged to check their spring 2011 schedules via ZipLine. Here is how:

The Office of the University Registrar sends an e-mail to the instructor of record and all enrolled students’ UANet e-mail address when there is a classroom change made in the course(s) they are enrolled. It is recommended that instructors and students check their UANet e-mail often for any important messages from the University as this will be the official means of notification used by the Office of the University Registrar.

Students may access a computer from many locations on campus including:

• Simmons Hall – Lobby
• Student Union – Laptop Check Out and Kiosks
• Residence Halls – Computer Labs
• Bierce Library – Computer Labs and Laptop Check Out

HOME - by Samm Art-Williams

Come see why the African American male sometimes leaves, stays away from and returns HOME!

This staged reading shows the struggles of the African American male in the 1950's up to present day as he struggles to find his dignity and self preservation in a world that systematically judges him without thought, brutally rips into his self-esteem without pity, and destroys his potential growth without conscience.

Most students consider racism to be that which is inflicted between two or more contrasting cultures. This play exposes the hypocrisy of blatant disrespect shown between people within the same culture or race, which often does more harm than discrimination of race against race because it destroys the very core of self-image, as well impacts the future of younger generations who witness this suicide from within.

This production will stimulate conversations in courses that deal with human behavior/psychology, American history, theater, and the dynamics of bullying that are currently being discussed in America. Any course that examines the journey of man's self-discovery would benefit in seeing and discussing this play as it relates to the process of rethinking race.

Cannibalism destroys indiscriminately.

You're invited to an early Mardi Gras celebration on Friday, Feb. 4, as The University of Akron hosts its sixth annual Hearts for Humanity Dinner Dance in the Student Union Ballroom.

Proceeds from the event will help defray the cost for UA students traveling to the Gulf Coast to assist communities still struggling to recover from our nation’s worst natural disaster.

This year, in partnership with the national nonprofit group, Rebuilding Together, 110 UA students will use their Spring Break to help families in the Louisiana communities of Lake Charles and New Iberia restoring homes still ravaged by hurricane devastation.

Festivities at the Hearts for Humanity Dinner Dance will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar. A buffet featuring New Orleans-style food will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by great music, dancing, oral and silent auctions, and the opportunity to have your photo taken with Zippy.

New this year — Dessert Dash — featuring more than 40 gourmet desserts donated by local bakeries, restaurants and chefs in the area. The desserts will be on display for you to feast your eyes on and to determine which one you would like your table to have for dessert.

The cost is $20 for UA students and $25 for UA family, friends and community members. Children under the age of 10 can join the fun for $10.

Reservations and/or donations may be made at the secure Hearts for Humanity
website or at the Student Union Information Desk. Major credit cards will be accepted. Or, you can make a reservation with cash or your Zip Card at Rob's Caf. The deadline for reservations is Monday, Feb.1. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Sponsors of the event are the Office of Academic Affairs, the Vice President for Student Affairs, Faculty Senate and Akron-AAUP. For more information, about the event, or to register for the alternative spring break trip, please contact Ron McDonald at 330-972-7098 or rmcdonald@uakron.edu.
