Available around the clock, the service accepts tips via cell phone or the Web.

Of course, in an emergency, continue to call 9-1-1.

To submit a tip:

  • Text it to 274637(CRIMES) and begin the message with the keywordZIPTIP, or
  • Submit a tip online- allows unlimited characters and the ability to attach images from Facebook or other social media sites

Positions open for the 2011-2012 school year:
Vice-President coordinates media communication, co-hosts entertainers, plans road trips, assumes presidential duties when President is not able, and is responsible for recruitment.

Secretary records minutes, serves as co-host/hostess to
entertainers, serves as office manager, and is responsible for recruitment.

Treasurer maintains financial transactions, prepares cash boxes for necessary events, and keeps activity attendance.

Historian records RHPB events through video and photographs, designs a scrapbook of activities, and makes school displays.

Major Events Chairperson is responsible for such events as Welcome Weekend, Homecoming/Family Day Activities, Hall Fest and Sibs Weekend, and holds regular meetings with committee.

Music and Comedy Chairperson is responsible for the 9:09 and 7:17 series, assists with SAMS Rock Alike and holds regular meetings with committee.

Publicity Chairperson coordinates all publicity including sandwich boards, flyers and table tents and holds meetings with committee.

Technical Chairperson is responsible for sound, lights, and power. Chair maintains equipment and holds regular meetings with committee.

Are you interested in programming DIVERSE events for the University of Akron? Do you believe you would have the perfect skills to coordinate programs on campus? Then we want you! The Zips Programming Network is looking for a dedicated and creative mind to fill the 2011-2012 Executive Board Diversity Chair position.

Diversity Programs Chair: To program events that are diverse in their audiences and focuses.

Each executive board member has the following requirements:

ZPN Executive Members must have 8 office hours per week.
ZPN Executive Members must meet on a weekly basis with the President and / or Graduate Assistant.
ZPN Executive Members must meet with committee at least on a biweekly basis.
ZPN Executive Members must attend weekly executive board meetings and weekly Associate member meetings held on Mondays at 4:30pm and Wednesdays at 5:00pm.
ZPN Executive Members must be enrolled as a full time undergraduate student at The University of Akron, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
ZPN Executive Members must attend mandatory ZPN events.
ZPN Executive Members must actively participate in most ZPN events, socials and functions.

We Celebrate those who have battled cancer, we Remember those have lost their fight, and we pledge to Fight Back against the terrible disease.

But don't worry! You won't just be walking! There will be various ceremonies, performances and activities to keep you entertained for the entire 18 hours!

Josh Sneed is quickly making his mark as one of the top young comics in the business, and has become skilled in the art of writing in the third person. He’s opened for such acts as Dave Chappelle, Dane Cook, Larry The Cable Guy, Bill Engvall and Lewis Black.

In 2008, Josh finished 2nd out of 100 of Comedy Central’s top comedians in the Annual Stand-up Showdown, earning him a deal to record a new album on Comedy Central Records. iTunes selected his album as one of the Top 10 comedy albums released last year. In 2006, Josh filmed a 30-minute special, “Comedy Central Presents: Josh Sneed” that is currently re-airing.

Josh has also be seen performing in large venue theaters across the country such as Gotham Comedy Club in New York City, The Funny Bone in Ohio, The Improv in Cleveland, Ohio, and The Comedy Store in Hollywood, California.

She will speak about new, proposed policies for it which could affect public properties throughout the state of Ohio. The University of Akron Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is looking for hardworking, dedicated individuals who are interested in a career in sports marketing and would like to be a part of the 2011-2012 University of Akron Sports Marketing Internship program. This internship provides valuable experience towards a career in athletic marketing and promotions and will benefit the student in his or her overall understanding of sports marketing and administration.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to,

•Completing required weekly office hours
•Attendance at designated Akron Athletics sporting events
•Distribution of marketing and promotional materials
•Assist with the development and implementation of marketing plans
•Assist in outreach towards surrounding community and social organizations

In return for the completion of intern responsibilities, students will receive the following,

•Bi-weekly stipend
•Free Akron Athletics apparel
•Semester credit hours (Determined on an individual basis)
•One of the best hands-on marketing and promotions internship experiences available

Serving with Swipes is a food program in which students can use their leftover meal swipes or Dining Dollars to buy food for the hungry and homeless. All you gotta do is buy food in the Zees stores or bring some of that food that has been taking up space in you dorm room and place it in the boxes located in the Zees stores around campus. Any canned, boxed, or other nonperishable foods will do. It is a great way to show you care for those in the Akron area who have less than you do.

Women from across branches of service will speak on their experiences as women in today’s military. Participants will include both officers and enlisted, younger soldiers and those remembering when women had not yet been fully integrated into the military. The women veterans will also talk about a variety of issues on campus including; connecting with students as well as with faculty and fostering a sense of recognition of our service. Patricia Hall from the VA will discuss the various services provided for women veterans, and specialized programming the VA offers including Q& A and discussion.

There will also be light refreshments and sign ups for Sisters in Arms. Ms. Bridget Ludwa will facilitate the event.

Angela Davis has been an activist and writer promoting women's rights and racial justice while pursuing her career as a philosopher and teacher at the University of Santa Cruz and San Francisco University -- she achieved tenure at the University of California at Santa Cruz though former governor Ronald Reagan swore she would never teach again in the University of California system. She studied with political philosopher Herbert Marcuse. She has published on race, class, and gender. Known for her ongoing work to combat all forms of oppression, human rights activist Angela Davis has been active as a student, writer, teacher, scholar and organizer for more than three decades. As a gifted diversity speaker, Angela Davis is a moving orator, recounting her place in our nation's tumultuous history.

Zips Baseball Opening Series

The Zips Baseball Team will begin their home schedule this weekend with a series against the Western Michigan Broncos. The first game will be played on Friday, March 25 at 3:00pm. This game will be played at Canal Park, home of the Akron Aeros, located in downtown Akron. The first 50 students will receive a FREE Zippy Bobblehead!

The Zips will continue the series with the Broncos on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26. Both of these games will begin at 1:00pm and will also be played at Canal Park in downtown Akron. Students will receive 10 ROO-Wards points for attending any game this weekend!

The Career Center provides comprehensive educational support, training, and services that assist students and alumni in making career-related decisions.

One paid internship position is available in the Career Center starting this summer through spring 2012. The position has the possibility of renewal after the first year. Hours are flexible depending on academic schedule (15-20 hours per week).

Goals and Learning Objectives
•Begin/supplement the creation of a professional portfolio
•Develop skills in the design and production of marketing and public relations materials
•Develop communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work on a team
•Apply previously learned design skills to the development of a variety of marketing pieces and publications
•Develop new and/or enhance technical competencies utilizing Adobe CS3 design software (specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), Microsoft Office applications, and graphics packages
•Develop time management techniques to meet deadlines

Areas of Responsibility/Major Projects
•Create and update the Center’s semester and annual publications as outlined in the Center’s marketing timeline
•Create and design marketing pieces/publications from conception of ideas to print in the form of fliers, posters, postcards, banners, brochures, newsletters, table tents, handouts, etc., and all other graphic design needs as determined by the PR Workgroup or Director
•Ensure timeliness when working on projects in order to meet deadlines
•Communicate and work closely with the Center’s PR workgroup, as well as serve as a member of the PR workgroup
•Assist staff with support of the distribution of marketing materials, when needed

Qualifications
•University of Akron undergraduate student (preferably junior or senior)
•Declared major in Graphic Design
Strong written and oral communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills
•Ability to multi-task and meet project deadlines
•Attention to detail
•Ability to take initiative on projects and see through to completion
•Experience with Microsoft Office products, Adobe CS3 design software (specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), and other graphics packages
•Computer literacy and creative uses of technology in delivering products
•Ability to listen to others and convert their ideas/concepts into marketing pieces/publications
•Basic web page design knowledge
•Hours: flexible depending on academic schedule (15-20 hours per week expected)

It’s SpringFest time again! Each registered student organization will have the opportunity to run their own carnival game again this year! A select number of games will be provided at no cost to you, but these are on a first come first serve basis.

Like last year, all proceeds will be split among those organizations that participate during April 29th, 2011 from 3pm to 7pm. We encourage student organizations to decorate their provided table with banners, fliers, table skirts, etc. This is a great opportunity to meet new students and get them interested in your student organization!

Our team brought home the SIFE USA Regional Champion title as well as a trophy! This is the first time Akron has made it to Nationals in 12 years! The national exposition will be located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Nationals is May 10-12.
