Buchtel Avenue

Through today, July 16, Buchtel Avenue will be closed to through traffic from College Street to the North Campus Parking Deck skywalk in the eastbound direction and possibly the westbound direction so the next installation of pre-cast concrete planks on the Honors Complex can be completed.

Buchtel Common

The pedestrian walkway on Buchtel Common near the Dorothy Garrett Martin Fountain has been moved closer to Ritchie Hall. Signs are posted for the temporary route.

Campus-wide

FirstEnergy is replacing streetlights at various locations around the campus. Temporary traffic restrictions will be encountered.

Reminder:

Buchtel Common

The intersection of Buchtel Common and Union Street is closed to pedestrian traffic for streetscape construction. Please follow posted signs for the temporary walkways.

Union Street
Construction of the Union Street streetscape from Buchtel Common at Olin Hall to Buchtel Avenue is under way. To enter Olin Hall, use the east entrance. Please note that the sidewalks from Buchtel Avenue to Olin Hall have been removed – access Olin Hall from Buchtel Common or through Lot 15 east of Olin Hall.

College Street
Construction of the College Street streetscape has required restricting vehicles on the Circle below Buchtel Hall. The Circle is open only to emergency vehicles, deliveries to Bierce Library and for pick-ups and drop-offs in front of the College of Arts & Sciences building.

spacer image
The University's Metro RTA Pass Program, which provides unlimited rides on Akron Metro RTA buses during the Fall and Spring semesters to members of the campus community, will continue this Fall. However, it will only be available to those who purchase a UA Pass Program Bus Card. The card is currently available at the Zip Card office at a price of $25.00 for the semester. This program provides a great value to the campus community—the current price for a comparable pass from Metro RTA is $42.00 per month. The Office of Parking Services is pleased to be able to continue offering this valuable service.

Campus Loop Shuttle Update
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
spacer image
Effective in the Fall, the Campus Loop Shuttle Service will be updated to reflect actual usage by the campus community. With all of the approximately 10,800 parking spaces now available across campus, only the Polsky Express Route has been consistently in high demand during the past year. Therefore, all other routes will be eliminated. Resources that were being used for severely underutilized routes will now be reallocated to improve the speed of the Polsky Express Route. Conditions permitting, the Polsky Express Route will run from the Polsky Building to the College Street Cul-de-sac (by Bierce Library) and back.

Specific details about the Campus Loop Shuttle Service this Fall will be posted on the Office of Parking Services website at http://www.uakron.edu/parking/ as they become available.
