The Center for Literacy at The University of Akron’s College of Education is seeking youth from first through seventh grade to register for summer day camps focusing on graphic novel making, storybook making and screenwriting. Camp Digi-Lit is an education summer day camp program designed to nurture, encourage and inspire future generations of readers, writers, learners and thinkers. Our camps cultivate a taste for exploration, develop creativity, and stimulate a sense of excitement in reading and writing through technology while helping to prevent learning loss over the summer months.

Camps are one weekend from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and are based in Zook Hall on campus. Fees are $300 per student and $250 for multiple siblings. Scholarships are available for students attending Akron Public School. The scholarship application deadline is May 20, 2011.

• Graphic Novel Making Camp (Grades 3-5) June 20-24, 2011
• Storybook Making Camp (Grades 1-3) June 27-July 1, 2011
• Screenwriting Camp (Grades 5-7) June 27-July 1, 2011

REGIONAL CAREER EXPO AND TRAINING FAIR AT WAYNE COLLEGE

The fourth annual Regional Career Expo and Training Fair will be held on Friday, May 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Life Building at The University of Akron Wayne College, 1901 Smucker Road, Orrville Ohio 44667
The career expo is free and open to University of Akron students, graduates and the public. The event will feature over 60 employers and will offer opportunities to network, apply for full-time jobs, part-time jobs, summer jobs, internships and professional career opportunities. There will also be numerous speakers and career workshops covering topics such as resumes, networking, interviewing, labor market information, job search tips and more. Additionally, there will be job training providers and social service agencies on hand to assist with career needs. A special keynote speaker and employer panel is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium.
In addition to a rebounding national economy we’re excited to see more local job openings this year, which should make the fair a great opportunity for job-seekers. The career expo is sponsored by many local organizations including the Common Good Organization, which is a regional consortium of local social service agencies and The University of Akron Wayne College. To see a complete list of employers who will be recruiting at the event, visit www.wayne.uakron.edu or www.everybodyworks.org.
