Women's Basketball Summer Camp 2011 June 13 - June 16

The University of Akron Women’s Basketball Team will be holding their annual summer camp this year, June 13th through June 16th, from 9:00am – 4:00pm. The cost of the camp is $140.00 and is for girls ages 9 to 14. There will be a Lil’ Zips Day camp for boys and girls ages 3 to 8 on June 14th from 9:00am-11:00am. The cost of the day camp is $30.00. Check-in will be held in the lobby of Rhodes Arena on the first day of camp. The deadline for registration is Monday, June 6th. Payment in full must accompany each camp application. The Department of Student Judicial Affairs (SJA) is committed to promoting student development and a community environment that is both safe and conducive for learning. We achieve this mission by educating students about their rights and responsibilities as members of the UA community, informing university staff and faculty about the Code of Student Conduct and the SJA process, promoting accountability and responsible behavior for all members of the university, preserving a balance between the needs of individuals and the community and by treating each member of our community with respect while ensuring university procedures are followed.

The Department of Student Judicial Affairs (SJA) is seeking a Graduate Assistant who is well organized, highly self-motivated, and a team player that has strong written and oral communication skills. The Graduate Assistant for Student Judicial Affairs reports directly to the Director of Student Judicial Affairs. The small, yet dynamic departmental staff includes 2 professional staff, a graduate assistant, an administrative assistant and may have 1-2 graduate interns on a semester by semester basis.

Graduate Assistant Responsibilities include:
• Engage: Present proactive, educational programming for students, faculty and staff at New Student Orientation and during first-year student success seminar courses
• Administer: Assist the department with the administration of fact finding meetings, educational conferences, hearing boards
• Investigate: Investigate information related to cases, follow up with referral sources, communicate with University Police and campus departments to learn more about student misconduct
• Plan: Help plan and implement the University Hearing Board recruitment and training process annually
• Assess: Use diverse range of assessment measurement tools to include in annual department report and conduct file audits on a monthly basis
• Maintain: Update and maintain the Student Judicial Affairs website, policies, procedures, and implement best practices into the conduct process
• Facilitate: Maintain student conduct records and the collection of statistical data in order to monitor the campus climate and address critical issues such as crime, academic misconduct, drug and alcohol abuse etc.
• Represent: Represent the department on campus committees as assigned
• Benchmark: Conduct research on institutional best practices in the field of conduct administration

Qualifications: The ideal candidate must be a well-organized, highly self-motivated person with:
• A bachelors degree and pursuing a masters degree in higher education administration, counseling, MBA/JD or closely related area
• An articulate understanding of the mission of Student Judicial Affairs and interest in student development
• Experience working with students of diverse educational, racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
• Excellent written and oral communications skills

UAF & EAF Travel Funding May 17 - June 30

Attention: Graduate Students and All Registered Student Organizations:

Undergraduate Activity Funding (UAF) travel funding for registered undergraduate student organizations, has now been exhausted for the academic year, 2010-2011, for travel occurring prior to June 30, 2011.

Extracurricular Activity Funding (EAF) travel funding for registered graduate organizations and Professional Enrichment Grants (PEG) for individual graduate student professional enrichment has now been exhausted for the academic year, 2010-2011, for travel occurring prior to June 30, 2011.

Graduate students who received a PEG grant and have finalized their travel must submit a Graduate Student Expense Report, signed and authorized by their advisor, within two weeks of completing their travel, and include written verification of all travel expenses that are being claimed.

All registered student organizations must seek authorization to travel by scheduling a mandatory pre-travel meeting with the Associated Student Government/Graduate Student Government Secretary, at which time a completed Travel Authorization application, and required documentation can be submitted, for any travel occurring between now and the beginning of the 2011-2012 academic year. All Authorization to Travel applications are still required to be submitted at least 28 days prior to departure. A meeting can be scheduled by calling (330) 972-7002.

All registered student organizations and graduate students will be notified when UAF and EAF funding for travel becomes available for travel occurring during the 2011-2012 academic year (July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012).

Organizations and graduate students are not eligible to apply for reimbursement and funding for travel that has occurred between now and when funding for the 2011-2012 academic year becomes available. Funding allocations for the 2011-2012 academic year will be disbursed to both student governments upon approval of the University budget.

The Buchtelite is currently searching for students to fill the positions of Advertising Representative during the 2011/2012 academic year. This individual will be required to work at least 10 hours per week and will be responsible for contacting and contracting prospective, current and past advertisers, therefore, ensuring the financial stability of the newspaper, and in turn, receiving commission pay plus possible bonuses based on performance. This individual must also possess strong communication and excellent organization skills, knowledge of sales techniques and team player responsibilities, and the determination to stay motivated during negative reactions due to economic recessions.
