Walkway Closure July 27

Please be advised, the city walkway south of the Alumni Building along Buchtel Avenue will be temporarily closed beginning Wednesday, July 27, 2011. This closure is part of repairs being made to the retaining wall adjacent to the city walkway.

In addition, Parking Lot 3, will be used as a staging area for construction and will be closed for the duration of the project.

During these repairs, the south side Buchtel Avenue walkway will remain open and can be used as an alternate route.

The walkway will be closed and barricaded for the duration of the construction project.

Weather permitting, the sidewalk will open prior to student move-in, or as soon as construction is complete.

Bridge Closure July 23

Please be advised the bridge leading to central campus between Shrank Hall North and Auburn Science and Engineering Center will be closed starting Saturday, July 23, 2011, for emergency repairs.

Weather permitting, the bridge will reopen approximately 8-10 days later.

Alternate accessible routes to and from central campus can be found using the elevators in Shrank Hall North and Auburn Science and Engineering Center. Stairwells south of Shrank Hall North and east of the Auburn Science and Engineering Center will remain open for pedestrian traffic across Caroll Street.

Temporary signs will be posted at the construction site.

The Office of International Programs (OIP) is looking for 4 - 6 volunteers, who would like to meet new students from around the globe, to hand out informational packets at International Student Orientation. Volunteers would be expected to work from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on both Wednesday, August 8, and Friday, August 10. Volunteers will also help direct students through the check-in process. The Office of International Programs (OIP) is looking for outgoing, positive volunteers to welcome new international students the morning of International Student Orientation. Volunteers will meet the new students in the lobby of the the Paul E. Martin University Center as they arrive to make them feel welcome while they wait to check-in and for the orientation program to begin. If you like to meet new people and strike up conversations, this is for you! Volunteers are expected to work 8:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10. Coffee, tea and breakfast will be available during the shift. If you are interested in participating in the “Meet & Greet” program, please fill out an application found at: http://www.uakron.edu/oip/volunteer-information.dot and return it to the OIP in Polsky 483 or email it to Patty Eaglewolf at eaglewo@uakron.edu by July 30 at 4:30 p.m.
